Here's an amazing few lines of text-
"Mazurowski, pushed his national record-holding Titan Motorsports '94 Supra to the No. 1 spot in the Street Tire class with a stunning 9.002 at 160.40 mph. Considering that the national record entering the season was 10.34, the run by Mazurowski – whose black Toyota stunned the sport with a 9.52 in its debut in late April and which had run as quick as 9.41 – is an amazing feat, especially on street radial tires!"
This is from NHRA's Sport Compact site, referring to yesterday's event in Houston.
Looks like Ari and Sheppard have quite a bit of work to do to be competitive again.

Sheppard runs 9.xx et's on street tires in the past.
you stated that the previous time to beat was 10.34?
Is 10.34 the fastest this year up to the point when the supra hit
the 9.002?

Actually, the quote was taken directly from NHRA's site. I would guess that the 10.34 they refer to might have been for their Sport Compact series only, and only for their Street class.
I agree, have seen Sheppard run high nine second times, but I haven't seen anyone in the street class to run low nines.
Yeah - Nero and the Titan guys have done AMAZING stuff. That pass was no nitrous, on DRAG RADIALS! :)
Perhaps the record referred to is for non-AWD? Or perhaps for their own "magazine specific" class?
Gotta love supras, man...

Eddie Bello's rwd Porsche 911 ran low 9s on Toyo radial tires a couple of years ago in the IDRC street class.

I don't know what the overall record is. I know the Mustang (NMRA) drag radial class has cracked the 8's. I'm sure the Chevy guys are at least as quick as they've had the most experience with drag suspensions/tire combos.

In some Eastern Local classes there are quite a few 8 second street tire door slammers. I think the class is called Racer X or Racer extreme.

Stock 6speed supra (getrag) gearing, and perhaps (they aren't saying yet) a read diff from an automatic (slightly taller gearing).
I think they pushed the rev limiter up to 9k or beyond.

damn thats amazing. John, is your supra a 6-speed? i was just wondering what your 60 ft times are cause i'm not sure i'm launching mine as well as it can be, probably just need practice.
Yes. However I don't launch on slicks nor do I launch near the rev limiter - esp a 9k rev limiter :)
My best 60' was a 1.8 on drag radials with the heavy flywheel, a 1.9 with the lightened flywheel.
