I am applying for another position within my company. I am able to apply online and cut and paste my resume... since I already work for the company would it be necessary for me to include a cover letter? If so, what would I put on it? The reason I ask is because it gives me a section where it says
"Additional notes to recruiter or cover letter"
Any advice is appreciated! Oh, and wish me luck... it would be a big promotion as an Admin Assistant. :)
They tell us to dress up for interviews, redo the resume, but I've never heard anything about a cover letter.

Yes, copy in a "cover letter." It can't hurt
So did you get it?
Richard: Do you work in the black building?
When in doubt, take the extra steps.

I've never had a cover letter for any job I've gotten, but it can't hurt if you write well. Cover letters scare me, because they might start reading it, go "yeah whatever", and toss your resume before they even look at it.
And I've never submitted a resume without a cover letter.

Richard: Do you work in the black building?
Yes sir. I'm in said building at this very moment. Salary owns me.
Unitil the first quarter of 2007, anyway. We signed a lease for an entire building on Technology Way, just to the west.

If there is one thing I am proud of it's my resume.
The best thing you can do is always be modest yet "flattered" that you will get the job. Because that makes you seem confident.
I think your best bet would be to write a cover letter saying something along the lines of - dear sir or madam, i would like to take this moment to thank you for giving me the potential ability to become a better __________ while still working for this company. As you may know, I have always been a loyal employee to ______________ and am very grateful for the opportunity to become a ________________ here at ___________________.
Sincerely,

But that's just my opinion.

good luck! :) I've been happy all week because I'm no longer under direct supervision of the people that I wasn't getting along with and soon I will be moving to another building.
