Stem Cells Help Repair Paralysis in Mice (http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000087&sid=aJD5z55FCbCQ&refer=top_world_news)
Scientists have used embryonic stem cells to restore function in the legs of paralyzed mice, raising hopes they may some day achieve the same result in humans.
In the study, stem cells taken from mouse embryos were chemically transformed in a lab into motor neurons, cells that carry impulses from the brain and spinal cord to receptors in the muscles. Researchers then injected the neurons into the mice in such a way that three in every four animals were able to bear weight on their hind legs and take steps after six months.
I know what you are thinking, "Hey, Jesus could heal people like that."
Well, yes, he could. But this solution lets us help more people than he would.

I think legislation against stem cell research is the biggest mistake our government could make. There are hundreds of discoveries waiting to come from the research.

But if we make it legal to use stem cells than before you know it people will be marrying animals.

Doesn't matter.. even though stem cell research can cute paralysis and God knows what else, it's against "our religion" as a nation...... isn't it?

I'm an athiest, so I have a differing opinion there. If using stem cells can help a single paralized or diseased person, then i'm all for it. I'll eat babies for breakfast if it will help me live longer ;)

I'm all for that. Some people shouldn't breed with other human beings. This would be a form of population control ;)

gays will run in the streets eating babies and marrying dogs to cats, it will be like the dark ages again
Anyway, I'm all for stem cell research. :worshippy

You don't hve to think it. It's fact.

A friend of mine had some disease not sure which one at the moment but she was on her last string of life. She went in for a stem cell type surgery as a last hope type thing because nothing else was working. She was in a wheel chair very skinny and like I said on her last string. After the surgery she bounced back was up and walking around within months and is back at her normal weight. I strongly support stem cell research because of what I saw with her. She is still alive and well today and this was done 3 or 4 years ago.

Just to play devils advocate, don't you think stem cells could have a negative impact on humanity? These things have the potential to heal several diseases, disabilities, but don't you think we might be overstepping our bounds with it? 1000 years ago life expectancy was down to around 35 years, now we have people living well into their hundreds. How old will we be when we die? Could you imagine living to be 150, maybe even 200? Do we really want something like that?

I'm all for stem cells as an alternative fuel source.
No David. I'm for both Stem Cells and the death penalty so we'll be fine. Plus I like natural disastors.

People still die of hunger here in the US.. do you seriously think that EVERYONE will be able to afford this sort of thing? Something will work against it to keep population in control, it's the way of the world.

Science and morality don't mix. I think as a survival of our species we need to not morally hold ourselves as much as we do. We need to be very concerned with what benefits us as a species and not what benefits us as a belief. I think the US will fall behind the scientific curve based on all the rules they put on advanced research based on the fact that so many people see it as morally wrong. God gave you a brain to use and tools within the body and environment to use, make use of them. That's the way I religiously look at it. Scientifically, we need to use them to help our species survive and advance. Earth has had many different species live and die out, Humanity aint any less susceptible to being wiped out completely and becoming one of the extinct, I dont think many people really grasp that fact.

Name ONE person who's died of hunger in the US.

I can't name them specifically, but that was just an easy way of saying "lots of people die from random bullshit because they can't afford good medical treatment"
Name ONE person who has died of random bullshit because they couldn't afford good medical treatment.

Hey Stu you remember Jim stigal he had a friend who died in the emergency waiting room because he had no kind of medical coverage. He was complaining of really bad stomach (sp?) pains but they would not see him. I think the family is going to sue them but not sure.

We already are unfortunately. I don't remember the exact statistic now, but in an article in Discover Magazine on this topic they gave the percentages of new studies performed by different countries versus time, and our share is falling dramatically. Also, the amount of US science majors is dropping, I believe.
