View Full Version : Broken bolt
I am planning to do some work on my car, but a bolt broke and now stuck in its position. What methods are there to remove such a bolt?
One of the bolts holding my struts to the LCA broke.

An easy-out has worked for me. You drill a pilot hole and the hand turn the easy out so that the bolt backs out.

In this case the bolt has rusted to eht steel bushing insert in the arm. An Easyout wont help youIm afraid. You will need a new LCA busing and bolt. If you can take the arm/shock out and bring it in to the shop I can get it all fixed up for you. We have the bushings and bolts in stock usually.
I am planning to put better struts on my car, but just afraid of bolts breaking. I was planning to just get as many things off and try to take apart the broken bolts, drive to Honda and get new ones. I'll probably try it next weekend since I need my car during the week days to work. If I need anything, I'll let you know.

You are better off getting a new one from the junk yard and taking off the whole thing, The trick that sometimes helps is to spray it with a good penitrating oil every once and awhile about 10 hours before you try to pull them off.

That just happend to me. Went to the junkyard and got what I needed. It's just so much faster that way.
well, I am trying to replace my struts, so, when I do do the swap, I should finish up and find all the peices/parts i need than go from there. I'll try the drilling a hole into the broken bolt method.
should i use lots of wd-40 to try and grease it up?

Ya seriously, good luck with the drilling method... you're gonna need it.
i've tried it, it doesn't make thread to put a bolt into it, it just goes right through the bolt. it just makes a smooth crater like area in the broken bolt.
