Since I couldn't get a straight answer in chat...........
[ryanman] 12:37 pm: how much trouble will I get into for having a fully auto AK47?
[ryanman] 12:37 pm: if I got caught
[Dave_L] 12:37 pm: big trouble
[doogie06] 12:37 pm: no trouble.
[doogie06] 12:37 pm: lol
[ryanman] 12:37 pm: LOL
[Dave_L] 12:37 pm: haha
[Dave_L] 12:38 pm: split the difference lol
[ryanman] 12:38 pm: I'm still LOL'in
How much trouble would I get into for owning a fully auto AK47 if I got caught with it? Reason I ask is because I know a guy here that has one, he wants $1000 for it, I'm thinking about picking it up.

You can make AK's fully auto pretty easily. Just research it, buy an AK for 350-400 and do it yourself.

I don't know about Alaska laws, but it's a felony in Colorado, and a federal crime as well. There is a legal way to do it though... you just need to pay the machine gun tax, do some paperwork with the ATF, and wait a few months for the approval. I heard something about it be easier if you register it to a business that you own. Some people have set up do-nothing business (ie no income, no expenses) for this purpose, and it is apparently entirely legal to do so.

Yeah but this guy has a bunch of extra crap that comes with it and makes it a good deal, otherwise I'd just take my AK I have right now and convert it.

Depending on the circumstances you can get up to 20 years in prison and I'm sure some huge fines.
Here is what you need to do to own an NFA weapon.
You must be a U.S. citizen over 21 years of age.
You must live in a state that allows Class 3 weapons (Colorado does, Alaska also).
You must be clear of any felonies as verified by an F.B.I. background check.
You must submit a fingerprint card and two passport photos, which are kept on file by the BATF.
You must obtain a signature from your local Chief Law Enforcement Officer verifying that you have no felony indictments pending against you, and are mentally stable.
You must pay a one-time federal tax for each NFA weapon or suppressor purchased. Full auto $200.00. Short Barreled Rife (SBR) $200.00. Suppressor $200.00. Any Other Weapon (AOW) $5.00.

You can only legally own full auto weapons made before 1986 thanks to the ridiculously named "firearm owners protection act". It banned the manufacture of machine guns for civilians... that's why a legal M-16 costs $10,000 now.

from what some gun advisors are telling me...if u can get ahold of a class 3 license...which allows u to have in your possession a full auto...then its no prob.
if u get caught with one...big time...federal felony. (not worth it)
but u can buy the little trigger adapters at the gun shows for about 20bucks and make it yourself...
it works pretty good...(not that i own any...or three)..legal & cheaper..

Trigger adapters? You mean those bump-fire enhancers?

just run eh? i'm sure "in pursuit of suspect wielding fully automatic ak-47" coming over the police radio would end well =X
The hellfire trigger kits work decently, and they're legal. They attach to your trigger guard, forcing the trigger back forward once it hits the back, so you just pull and the spring bounces the trigger back and forth for you.
Other than that, either pay the taxes and get it all legalized, or get your class iii

Interesting. I've heard of others that just help you bump fire, but nothing that does what you described. Any more info or a link for that?

I did some searching and found the hellfire and various other ones, but they didn't get good reviews. The best one is supposed to be the GAT trigger, which appears to be a small wheel that you turn with the tip of your finger, and it fires 4 rounds per turn, but that's still crappy, IMO.
Then I came across this: http://www.quarterbore.com/nfa/lightninglink.html
It's not legal without going through the same paperwork as the other full auto conversions, but it sure is interesting that there is such a simple solution for AR-15's.

sorry, talked to the guy i knew who had one, and it turns out they are illegal since part of the addon modifies the action =/ my mistake.
The gat thing is kinda cool looking, i would guess accuracy would be kind of shot using one of your hands to spin the wheel, though, still looks fun =P

I heard one that there is a 3 point law for civilians and 5 points for law inforcment. I do not know what exsactly what that ment but i think 1 point is a bananna clip 1 a point, scope is another point and so on. It is somthing like that. I heard about this a few years ago, I just remember stupid shit liek that all the time.

What the fuck are you talking about?

points? what? thats the second time i heard that. Some guy at the left hand was telling me I had in "illegal assault rifle" since I had a flash suppressor, 30 rounder, collapsable stock, and laser/light rig on my ar, said "you can only have 3 of those, you pointed out." I checked the CRS and nothing in any of the firearms section says anything about points, and talked to a us marshall that said they'd never heard of any points system on a federal level either.

Hahaha I had a lot more on my AR than that and the cops here loved it. They knew who to come to if they needed help!! The ATF came to my house once and they loved it too and my swords too, they even had a fight with them! It was funny! The CSPD cop got owned by the ATF agents!! As long as the gun itself is legal you can add what ever you want to it. There was a law with the flash suppressor but it went away like 6 years ago. It was something stupid too. As for getting a fully auto as long as you can get the class 3 license your pretty much there. The best person to talk to would be someone with one, the police, the state or feds. I personally would talk to Dragon man here in the Springs, he is his own little army.

The "point" thing refers to the assault weapons ban that expired in 2004.

Yes, but you need to pay a tax on it and do the paperwork with the ATF and possibly get local law enforcement's approval too.

plus all the licences you have to have to own a fully auto gun, or a silencer... you give up your right of illegal search and seisure. The cops, or ATF or FBI or anyone can just walk into your house anytime they want, and you can't do shit about it.
