I have a couple problems that I want to remedy.
1. fuel cut
2. stuttering above 5k rpms
I have a super afc, stock injectors and fuel pump.
I am going to buy a walbro 255 off this guy for cheap tonight he also has a 2g mas up for grabs.
Isnt the fuel cut due to the mas reading a certain amount of karman? So fuel cut absolutely wont be remedied w/o a different mas or can this be remedied by having more fuel available?
has anybody been able to rid themselves of these problems?

I know that Ryan knows this but I've never hit fuel cut on my 1st gen and I'm running 17psi on my 18g.

Am I lucky or.........?

I just need help figuring out where to put my cash. Im not buying these for power addition I just want to get rid of the problems and make the car run smoother to take better advantage of the power I already have.
I dont have enough money for both the 2g mas and the fuel pump this week so I want to buy the one thats going to give me the best results.

Fuel cut: AFC/larger injectors/2g MAF
Stuttering: plug wires and/or plug gap.

Fuel cut is done by the ECU once the MAF signal exceeds a voltage threshold. You can use the 1g MAF and the AFC with 660 injectors and it'll solve it for now. The 2g MAF would be the way to go, if you want to stay away from a VPC type setup.

so with a stock fuel pump 1g mas, safc and bigger injectors I can solve the fuel cut problem?
also I have new plugs and wires, plug gap is .028. I think my top end stuttering may be fuel cut as well, as it seems that it cuts in and out from 5k-6k rpms. is it worth putting larger injectors with a stock fuel pump???

No top end stuttering is something on the ignition side such as plugs or plug wires. Try some new ngk's (bpr6es) first. If that doesn't work try new plug wires.

I'd not use the stock fuel pump for over 17-18psi on the stock turbo, less on an upgraded turbo. A walbro pump can be had for right around $100 or so, and would a good addition.

If you hit fuel cut, you'll know it. It's quite violent in the DSM world - it would like to plant your teeth on the steering wheel.

To echo what Dave said - stuttering is ignition. It may be a weak coil pack, or bad wires. How new are the wires? If you've gapped the plugs down to .028, try .026 and see if the stuttering goes away. If so, then there's a weakness in the ignition.

I picked up a 2g mas, fipk K&n and a 2g intake pipe.
all I can say is it was a bitch to get it to fit.
ruff draft install so far but it started right up with normal idle I took it out for a quick test run.
Fuel cut can now kiss my ass along with the stumbling around
It spools much quicker and pulls hard through the full rpm range.:D :D :D
Im going to redo half the install in the morning and get it a bit cleaner.
Its nice to go through 1st and second gear at wot and not give myself wiplash in the process!

Ryan, where did you find a 2nd gen intake pipe.

How is spooling quicker? I don't get it. (?) Did you find/repair a boost leak?

this is Ryan on pauls computer.
I used a full 2nd gen intake setup,
2g intake pipe
2g mas
2g k&n fipk kit
the only thing this instal required me to buy was a slightly larger inside diameter bov-intake tube.
Maybe I fixed a leak somewhere in the install process...
we datalogged a couple runs in 3rd gear starting at 3k rpm:
02 voltage- 9- 9.2 across
knock- 30 counts at over 5k rpm
inj pulse width- 17.6 @ wot
timing in single digits- 7-9 degrees
this run was done at 16 psi
safc settings-
5500rpm up is at +30%
graduating up from +15% @ 3500rpm
also karman readings with new mas in 3rd gear are only reading
1800hz.
with the 1st gen mas I was hitting 2075hz
