hey all you Colorado guys. Summer is here again, and its time to start planning some drives. Jeff at Planet Honda and I are int he begining stages of planning a charity drive this summer for the Battered Womens shelter. It will be a small fee for each car in the "parade" but it will go to a good cause and there will be prizes and other things too. I am looking for input from all you guys and gals on what you like to see on a successful day of fun in the sun. post here or e-mail me so we can get this summer off the ground.

It will definatly be a weekend.
what kind of ideas you have so far?
Plans on a nice cruise? maybe a mountain cruise?
what month are you shooting for?
maybe we could all bring something that the organization could use like non perishable ood or blankets and clothing etc.

We have not set perameters yet for donations, they are just money right now but I will get in contact with the House and see what their needs are. It will be a mountain run with several stops.
It will either be a treasure hunt style or a Poker style where you pick up cards at stops and at the end of the drive the best hands win prizes and coupons.

Battered women? I eat mine plain, but I'm all about charity. Looks like I'll need that turbo by then too. What's to say that if we get tons of people involved, we'd make the news. That would show people that there is really serious import enthusiasts out there that have a good head on their shoulders. Count me in!

I really like cruising, especially with a large group. So ya I'll come, and I don't mind paying a lil, especially if it's for a good reason :)

i am in. For a while now I have also been thinking about setting up a fundraiser for the st. jude childrens hospital....those little kids really hit a soft spot with me...........maybe we could do it in the form of a ride/drive sort of thing...........Maybe i should get cracking on this idea.

Its easy to set up Steve. Just call them, see what they are in need of most. tell everyone to donate whatever is needed, like clothes, toilet paper, toys etc. and then make a fun drive, lunch day out of it. Its easy and tons of fun.

Sounds like a blast. I'll be in for sure.
We could maybe make a time and distance rally out of it too, although that may be a little complicated to pull off.

Well there is no competition involved but "spirited" driving is a must. State Patrol will be informed of our plans also to help keep things honest and fun for everyone. We plan on making this an annual event as long as turnout is good and mishaps are kept minimal.

okay... where's planet honda? and I'm assuming the drive is more than just from planet honda to the restuarant, or is it more like a parade like thing?

No its a mountain run drive. it will include stops for prizes, raffles and just plain fun. Planet is at 15601 West Colfax ave.
Its colfax and I-70 on the west side of the highway.
I am throwing in a pair of passes to the Mile HIgh Nationals at Bandimere speedway too. These tickets are for all four days and are worth nearly $200.

Cool, I don't intend to obtain any prizes, I just wanna take a nice drive with the pack :)
HONDA GHANDI
07-11-2002, 10:46 PM
Well thats the whole point of the drive is to raise money for charity. the prizes are given to us by sponsors to attract fine young individuals such as yourself. the fine young drivers pay a small fee to enter and can win prizes worth ten times the entrance fee. Then all the entrance fee money goes straight to the charity, every red cent of it.

yeah that's cool, doing something that's already hella fun for a good cause is great. I'm gonna try to gather my friends to come and drive too, so they have to pay $10 instead of $5 :p but if anything I'll try to get them to ride along with me.
great idea btw :)

Didn't see any reporting from Fullthrottle, so I thought I'd fill you in. We raised about $520 for the Joy House and Planet Honda will be matching that amount for a total of $1040 to be donated.
I was disappointed in the turnout (or lack thereof) of HAI members (we only had two guys show up in addition to Tobi & I), but S2000 Int'l had a nice showing w/ about 20 cars and 32 people total that donated.
Next time....I want to see some of you youngsters show up for a good cause!!!! (PS - I'm like the "mom" of this group if you newbies are just seeing me post)
We'll wish for great weather again on the 2nd Annual Charity Drive for next year!!:)
