I saw a white 2001 Jetta 1.8t, I pulled up next to him and we talked for a bit. He had an intake but that was it. Eventually we caught a light. It turned green and first gear I pulled just a bit, shifted into second and put about a car on him, shift to third and another car and then let off. Then a gst pulled up at the next light and wanted some so I put three car lenghts on him. Then on my way home I raced a early 90's trans am and beat him by a couple cars.

hey man, did they up the HP for 02 on that model your driving?
there is a guy from the other board with a 01 i think 1.8T wolfsburg. his best time at PMI was a 16.3
the day we went back to race at PMI was 90 degrees and he ran a 16.6 and i also ran a 16.6 i wonder what the HP was on your car and what kind of a day it was to get that time?

They increased it by 30 hp for the 2002's. 150hp vs 180hp. When I ran that it was about 5:30 maybe? and about 65 degrees. I was about the 5th car to race after they did all the prep stuff to the track so my car really hooked up. I have heard people usually get slower times at PMI due to worse track conditions but I have no first had experience

Im really starting to like the new 1.8t gti I am going to need to buy a commuter car in the future.
it seems to have the biggest balls for the buck!
what did you pay for it if you dont mind me asking?

got mine for $22,000 after taxes/ title. I have every option available on mine. I think the base 1.8t starts at around 18,000

Does the golf 1.8t come in the 180hp version also?
if so this would be my route, I want a 4 dr!
whats the price on the 4 dr golf 1.8t?

i dont think they have the 1.8t option in the golf anymore... they did in 01 but i think it was discontinued. you might be able to find a used 01 for sale, you could get a 2002 jetta if you want 4 doors

are all 02 1.8t's 180 hp? or just the gti?

Ryan...don't waste your money on an 02', if your going to chip it anyway just get a used four door golf 01'.

02' stock=180
01' stock=150

02' chiped=198
01' chiped=196

02' chiped+tubo inlet pipe=205
01' chiped+turbo inlet pipe=205

And from there on out, the performance is the EXACT same. Only diff. with stock 01's and 02's is Turbo Inlet Pipe and chip. I think that 02gti1.8t's car is a factory freak. He just got lucky.

02gti1.8t...you should put your beast on the dyno and see what you got.
