I had my friend drop by today in his newly chipped 97 VR6 jetta. That, so far, is the only mod he has done to it. One thing I like about it is that it's stock quiet, and produces just a bit more power than my 6 PSI SC'd EX. Before his chip, when him and I raced, I'd get him off the line, but he'd pretty much stay with me after that, and just barely pull on me. He wouldn't even redline it where as I was damn near close to bouncing my redline each gear.

He let me drive his today with the chip in it (he said he paid like 90 dollars for it installed) and it's pretty quick. We went chasing after a golf or something and were walking up on him easily in 5th gear at well above law abiding highway speeds. WOW! very nice. The chip gives him better gas mileage (like 10 mpg more) and adds 20 horsies and 29 lbs. of torque. It pulls nicely until about 3K rpm, and then kindof lulls out a bit until about 4400 rpm where it picks up again until redline (wait, there is no more redline :D ). I didn't take it above 6K on the tach and it still felt good, even with the stock restrictive exhaust. I think he's pushing about 195 to the flywheel right now. When he gets an exhaust and intake, he'll be well over 200, and the exhaust will kill that lull in the rpms.

sounds like a good mod...wonder why it wasnt chipped from the factory? 10 mpg/20hp/29tq more would be a good selling/advertising point.
