So I'm on my way to work this morning, a little out of it as I've only gotten 4 hours of sleep, and am looking at another 18 hour day ahead of me.

I get out on to the first "major" street, and see in the distance behind me a black Civic lowered, with a mesh grill in the nose, and green bulbs in the corner lights - yes, on. It takes me all of, oh, 3 seconds to decide to slow down and wait for him. But he's just not coming up, and my turn is coming very soon.

Suddenly, he guns it and cuts in front of me to take the same turn. I let him in, and wait for him to complete his turn. I get to the apex of mine and mash the pedal. "Low Trac" light comes on and I'm running him down like a gazelle. A three-legged one. Pass him up easily by 40, and drop the gear selector into 2nd to wait for him to come up. Sure enough, I hear the Little Engine that Thought it Could at about 15 gazillion RPMs, and he pulls a fly by, but gets out of it at about a car length or two in front of me (I actually tapped the brakes at him on his way by to tell him I wanted to line up).

OK, let's establish the car. Real original. Black '92-'95 coupe with Altezza taillights and a Shopping Cart RiceWing™. I don't recall if it had wheels, but I know it didn't have an exhaust. Definitely had an intake by the sound. No idea what trim level. Definitely slow.

So I ease into the throttle and pull up next to him. We're going about 50 when he downshifts what sounds like 3 gears and as soon as I hear that, I ease into the throttle about halfway. Never more than 4psi on the boost gauge. Take that to about 75 and I'm already close to 4 cars ahead of him, and my next turn is coming up. I make the turn, and the guy revs at me while I'm in the turn lane! Of course, he goes straight through the light instead of collecting his next ass-whooping.

My car is running a lot under par right now; probably a best of a 14 flat corrected in its current street trim. Pathetic.

But still, it sits a lot higher on the Performance Food Chain than a Honda Powered by Rice.

...And that's the story of the day, children. Hope you enjoyed it. Now, everyone put your heads down; it's Nap Time.

Nighty-night.
