I just recently joined another forum in Japan for DC2 and DC5 owners. Its basically like here. where we discuss parts, racing, impressions, etc.
Well, I was surprised to learn that the DC2 Type R is now the 5th most stolen car in Japan. Once guy had his R stolen, and guess what? They found it a month later in pieces on in shipping container bound for N. America! I was like WTF!!! Fuggin American thieves as stealing our cars now! They said that there is a huge auto theft ring in N. America who have decided to expand their operations overseas, and many R's are disappearing because of it.

Another guy who had just bought a DC5 Type R got his car stolen on the same day he took his car home from the dealership. He thinks it's an inside job and someone at the dealership had tipped off some thieves.

I am so paranoid now. All these years I had been coming here and reading about people's R's being stolen and thinking that it would never happen to me. Now its truly becoming a reality that my car may be stolen someday. Luckily, my car is pretty hidden from site, but if someone really wanted one, I guess it wouldn't be too hard to follow me home one day and take it. I was followed home once by a car driving another CW ITR about a year ago. He passed by my driveway which is really hidden, (so it made me really wonder what he was up to), but then he drove away. I think it was just a curious owner wondering if my car was really turbocharged

So, if you find a JDM or even a USDM Type R on ebay or anywhere else for sale really cheap, please questiion the seller thoroughly about where he got it. Especially a JDM R. Those aren't too easy to ship from here, so I would beware as to the way the got a hold of one. Just my vent and my 2 yen...thanks

I got this from a guy on HT that lives in Japan.

I would not assume it was Americans that are stealing them.. I am sure it is link though just with Japan knowing how much money they can get for the parts here... they steal them and then chop em and ship them over here

i know lots of guys overseas that rip people off...i wouldn't be surprised to find that service members or their family members are involved...especially with the premium put on JDM parts...i know that i kick myself in the ass all the time for just stepping over shit in the junkyards when i was there.

it's not hard for service members or govt employess to send shit back...

I have been wondering why this subject comes up so often with Hondas/Acuras. I have a friends with subarus/nissans/mitsubishis and i wonder why those cars aren't stolen as often (although i do know that subarus are climbing on the list)

I wonder how bad Type R's are stolen in the UK for that matter.

But I highly doubt it can top the Ford Escort Cosworth as the most stolen though in England.

I wonder why us customs allows all these parts to us when they know they might be stolen.

Not all peices from Japan are stolen, Money is the root of all evil. Most People will do almost anything to have it. I travel to pretty shitty places sometimes and you turn on the news and all that goes on is Rape, Robberies, Theft, Murder. Colorado isnt near as bad as you guys think.

there are no customs restrictions when you're using the military/govt post offices...it's still part of usps, in a way, and if you're shipping from a base or embassy, it's almost considered domestic mail...i used to ship cheap PC parts that way...
