According to newspaper and magazine accounts, the scene in question was staged early in the morning of March 31, 1993, in Wilmington, North Carolina. The scene was the death of Lee's character, Eric Draven, at the hands of street thugs, and was a pivotal plot element to the movie. Lee was to walk in through a door carrying a bag of groceries. Actor Michael Massee, who played Funboy, fired a revolver loaded with blanks at Lee. To complete the illusion, a small explosive charge was to go off in the grocery bag. Unfortunately, a fragment of a dummy bullet, used earlier in close-up shots, was lodged in the barrel, and the blank charge propelled the fragment into Lee's side, fatally wounding him.

Huh?
M@'s Version:
IN the movie; Eric Draven (played by Brandon Lee) was to walk through a door with a bag of groceries. A bad guy (named Funboy) was supposed to shoot him. The gun was loaded with blanks, but unfortunately a piece of a 'dummy bullet' was lodged inside of the gun's barrel, trajecting(sp?) it into the side of Brandon Lee, which ended up killing him. (they removed this scene by the way)
Other belief was that he was murdered by the same Chinese Mafia that killed our good buddy Bruce (his father).
Other's also thought that he was murdered by organized crime that had ties to the Hong Kong movie industry; and they were mad because he didn't want to work in their films.
But he just really died because some dumb-ass didn't take proper precautions to make sure that he wasn't really going to get shot.
