anyone know how to test if the ecu on a car is bad? my car isn't running and i think its the ecu thats bad but i dont what to buy a new one and find out that its not it.

P.S.- to reset the ECU you just unplug the battery for 30 sec or more and plug it back in correct?

yes you can just unplug the battery, but all that really does is erase the memory (reset check engine light) if the ecu is bad that wont fix it.

what year is your car? and what kind of car?

the only plausible way to test an ECU is to swap it with a working ECU

ya i was afraid of that..... thats a $100 guess and check.

the car is a 92 nissan 240sx
