View Full Version : B16a running rich....failed emissions
I am trying to get my 90 civic Si with a B16a swap past emissions. It's a OBD0 setup running on a PR3 ECU. It is running waay rich at the moment. After doing some diagnostic work, it was determined that the 2nd 02 sensor was bad....so it was replaced. The car is still running rich....and very erradically. It will go from approx. stoich, to way rich...fluttering around. The continuity of the 02 sensor wiring was tested.....the ECU is getting a clean signal. Fuel pressure was tested , and the car is in tune.
What else could be causing this rich running condition? We are out of ideas. Should I consider swapping the ECU and see if that makes any difference?
I only have 9 days left before I have to retest....so any help would be appreciated.

Why do you have 2 o2 sensors on a obdo car? They only have one on the down pipe.
The b16 uses two.

Not to sound like an ass but 1st an ODB0 motor has only one that I know as does my JDM B16 in the 5th gen. Change out the header? 2nd look at the motor if the outside is treated like that (the motor might be in rough shape.) then maybe that is why you wont pass emissions.

Well why would a JDM B16 ODB0 use two and my JDM odb1 uses one? All my ODB0 Ls Swaps I have done all have one o2 sensor. So Fck off 2gaycrx I was just asking him that as I was unsure, Since you know so much about the JDM b16 then why don't you offer the guy some help instead of bothering with me?????????????????????????????????????????

oops i typed out more info erlier but i guess it didnt save, so here we go again
obd0 b16a's have a lot of things obd0 usdm ls's didnt have IE ( 2 o2's, knock sensor .ect) if you wanna know why ask honda all i know is 0bd0 b16a have 2 o2's
anyway:
what i did with my 2nd o2 sensor way tap the signal wire from the 2nd o2 to the primary so both would read off the primary
also o2 sensors do a thing called cross counting that is when the ecu flutters the af ratio from ritch(900mV) to stoich (450mV) to lean (100mv) a proprly functionng o2 should go from full rich to full lean in 100ms you will need a DSO to run that test. that is dont to keep the cat at its most efficient temp
as for the ecu is it chiped or stock? if it is chipped it will mostlikely be running rich so that would be your problem.
also it could just be in your wiring do you have any CEL's?
Well, I managed to get the car past emissions. It turns out the issue was with the idle adjustment screw. Go figure.
My hesistation problem is still present though. I have no idea what to do about that.
