View Full Version : Biggest slick on EK Civic?
What's the biggest sick that will fit on an EK Civic assuming I use a 15" wheel? 14" wheel?

You could fit a 12" wide slick, It depends on offset. Now are you talking about how tall of a slick will fit?
I guess both really.. any info would be appreciated. I have a set laying around, and I'm guessing it'll be way too big but I'm not positive. So I guess width, height, etc.

Id just call PFI and see if they have any info. The lucirelli (sp?) brothers in longmont have run slicks for awhile and PFI built their motors and tuned them.

lmao, quit fucking crying matt, you do the same stupid shit to everyone else.
anyways i know a guy with some 26x11.50x15 slicks on his civic. has to be stock height, and they stick out about 2 inches past the fender.
I don't edit the same person's posts EVERY POST (practically).. and stock height is deffinatley not an option for me at this point in time. Hmmm.. thanks for the input.

if it is lowered you will want 22-24" slicks. probably 22"
or use coilovers and raise them just for the track.

one thing about slicks though, if you are wanting to run SFWD they do have limits on how wide the tires can be.

i would say 24 would probably be the max you could go.
Turns out the ones I have are 27x8.. oh well, I got them for free. lol.

I ran 25x8.7x13 last year, and I'm planning on running 24.5x9x13 this year. My car sits pretty tall to fit them... if its not stock height, its not much lower than that.
Keep in mind that taller slicks directly change your gearing.... guys are trapping 150+mph with gsr trannies and 24.5-25" tall slicks... so if you want to take advantage of your gearbox, you better size the height of your slicks based on your power and realistic 1/4 goals.... what are you expecting to run?
Also, your bite will be highly affected by the amount of sidewall you have... so a smaller rim will always be better...
On slicks, a high 11.. stock Si tranny, 6 puck sprung strip only clutch. My car sits on a 2.25" drop front and rear.. so I'm not sure what would be the proper slick/wheel size for me...

to fit our slicks and drag radials we had to raise it back up

Well, I was running mid 11's on the 24.5x8.5x13's for a while, and I thought fort that time, it was a little too big of tire but it allowed room for growth. But I was running a GSR tranny, and a b16 tranny has much shorter gears. Yoiu can try to find an online tranny-tire speed conversion to see what you would be trapping, but the problem is that its harder to calculate with slicks because the grow throughout the run.
What's your redline and estimated power (corrected or uncorrected) going to be?
Stock redline, estimated power (for the 11's) 500ish to the wheels uncorrected.
I'm thinking the M/T 3010 would be a good slick to run. 22"x8", 13" rim.

Well, there are a couple things there I want to mention. What motor? I'm assuming by stock redline you mean around 8000.
500whp uncorrected is a lot more power than most peole think. I ran mid 11's in my hatch with 325whp uncorrected on 24.5" slicks. I was only making low 500's whp uncorrected last year when I ran 10.4 @ 140MPH. Hell, the year before I was running 10.9@135 with only 420whp uncorrected.
So, if you are only shooting for high 11's, you don't need nearly that much whp. If you're really going to have that much power and you're running slicks, you're going to be a lost faster than 11's (unless your car is really really heavy or you can't drive at all). Remember that 500whp uncorrected will be around low 600'swhp corrected (depending on the CF of course).
Especially if you're keeping the stock redline, you are going to need a much taller slick than 22" if you're gonna make 500whp uncorrected. At least 24.5" tall, especially with the si tranny.
So, are you going to make 500whp uncorrected, or do you really only want high 11's? That will make the decision for you.
I'm thinking the M/T 3010 would be a good slick to run. 22"x8", 13" rim.

without coilovers i still think you are going to have a problem fitting the tires in the wheel well without rubbing.
I was reading "D Sport" and with their project EG, they had to run close to stock ride height just to fit some DOT drag radials.
I dont see why you would spend a whole bunch of money on a killer engine, then use some lowering springs and shocks for the suspension.....

i totally agree, skunk2 makes a drag kit but even some basic coilovers will work just fine for now, you'll also run into the problem of the springs flexing to much and slamming the back to the ground possibly hitting your back tires and you'll lose alot of power on the launch,

FYI, I used to run nitto 555 drag radials (I still have them) and I can't remember the size (they are nothing crazy, pretty stock looking) and they are 23" tall. 22" is very short if you look at it

500whp should net you very low 11's
Maybe I meant corrected? I'm still a little confused on the corrected/uncorrected #'s. My goal this season is an 11. Whether it be 11.000 or 11.999, I know that's a HUGE difference, but I'm running a built bottom end on a stock head, stock tranny, and race clutch. I'm not a dyno pro.. I've never even dyno'd a car I own before so I'm guesstimating what kinda numbers I would like to see out of my motor.

As far as my suspension goes, and to answer your confusion.. it's because I'm not rich. I am focusing on my motor, then in a month or so, I will be switching to Omni Power coilovers F&R.

Depending on the day, basically corrected #'s are anywhere from 15-30% higher than uncorrected #'s. Uncorrected #'s are the real #'s that you are putting down the the wheels, while corrected #'s are the dyno's "guess" at what you would make at sea level under standard conditiions.
What is your chassis? (i.e. how much does it weigh?) 325-350whp uncorrected is typically plenty power to run 11's in a FWD honda with slicks and a good driver. That would be somewhere around low-mid 400's whp corrected. When I ran 11.6, I was making 403whp corrected.
With the b16 tranny, I would recommend no smaller than this:
http://www.mandhtires.com/store.php?crn=71&rn=277&action=show_detail
You could get this and run 11's fine with some room to grow:
http://www.mandhtires.com/store.php?crn=71&rn=323&action=show_detail
You want to size your slicks so that at your desired 1/4 time, you end the 1/4 near redline in 4th
'99 Si, stock interior.. with me it clocked in at 2675 with about 1/4 tank of fuel.

I'm at 2400 with me in it... so you've got almost 300lbs to make up for. Shoot for 500whp corrected and you should be more than fine.
Cool cool. I'm still wondering about the slicks though.. the coilovers wont be a problem as I have a good hookup on them. I just still need to figure out which size to run.

Are you going to hit high 11's and then be happy and stop modding your car? Or are you going to do what evreyone else does and keep going? :)
With only an 8k redline and the b16 tranny I would recommend some 24-24.5" slicks. I think you'll outgrow 23 pretty quickly. Guys have been known to hit 10's on 22" slicks, but its not ideal. And with your b16 tranny, you don't want to be shifting into 5th gear...

Here: call John (the guy at M&H) 661.324.4773
Tell him your car stuff and power and he'll tell you which ones to get. He's good at that. But, definitely tell him uncorrected power
Alright.. thanks. Oh, and.. of course when I hit an 11 I'm still not fast enough. :) Is it ever fast enough? :D

I have a set of M&H 8.7/25.0-13 Slicks Mounted on Bogart Fly Star 13x8 Wheels for sale. These also come with spacers so you can run larger brakes.
3 passes on them.
Trying to purchase a new home and won't be racing this year. Let me know if you are interested.

How much are you looking to get?
Talked to him, nice guy. He suggested a 8.5/24.5/15, but another question is.. will 13" wheels even fit on my Si? He's thinking they won't but I'm not sure....

I'm looking to get $625 for them. They retail for over $800. If your shooting for over 500whp. These slicks should work out nicely for you.
The problem is I don't know if the 13's would fit over my stock Si brakes..

I'll tell you what, Drag.. if you still have them in about 3 weeks, we might have a deal. How long did you burnout for when staging?

Can't really say.... Just did my burnout until the tires started grabbing. I'm guessing 4-5 seconds?
Let me know in 3 weeks if you want them. After that I'll try and sell them on Honda-tech
Cool.. thanks. Any chance I could get pics?
