Hi everybody.
The name is Vern. I go by "Van" at a couple of other dsm ubb's, so you can call me Van as well. I drive a '91 Eagle Talon TSI awd. She is pretty well modified.
I've been slowly (two years) assembling a "deadly dsm." I wasn't really too interested in running her at the track with the stock 14b turbo. I already knew what they ran up here, and there wasn't much point in beating her to death proving the same point.
I'm hoping to get to the track alot this season on the Wednesday night T&T's. I'm not into the bracket stuff.
My first run at Bandi was on Apr 21.
r/t 1.022
60' 1.960
330 5.420
1/8 8.276
mph 86.46
1000 10.743
1/4 12.814
mph 108.95
This was running 91 octane pump gas and at the full normal everyday street weight (everything and then some was in the car) 3280 lbs.
Not too shabby, for our first run. :guns:
Pics of her and what not are here.

Hey Vern...(lol! - I sure you get that a lot? - probably played out eh?) :)
Anyway...at what boost was that run? dump some race gas in and turn that sucker up to 30spi. ;)
hey whats up vern, My name is Ryan I met you the other night up on quebec.
I noticed you have a 2nd gen mas, did you have a problem with fuel cut? I am asking because I have been hitting it hard on colder nights and really want to rid my car of this problem.
is a 2nd gen mas the answer to the fuel cut or should I be looking into one of the fuel cut defensors?
welcome aboard! and once again thats a nice looking car.

Thanks for the big welcome guys!
I see you found the mod list...
Yep, I'm at dsmtalk too. I frequent five or six dsm ubb's.
24 psi on the 12.8 run on pump gas. Race gas will come soon, with my turbo and fmic combo I can run more boost on pump gas.
As of right now I'm trying to trick my ProfecB into giving me more than 25 psi. I have found a way, but it is still in the "tweaking" mode. There is a bit more to be had on the 91 octane, :D as soon as I take that slack up on the local et list, then comes the race gas and pulling the spare and stuff out. Some 116 oughtta be really interesting, hehe.
Yes, I have a 2G mas with the lower, center honeycomb removed. It by itself will not cure fuel cut, but it flows more air for the same amount of Karmen Hz seen by the car's ECU. IMHO, you want some bigger injectors and a s-afc to push fuel cut back further.
Now that unhacked 2G mas's are about into the tens, I'm more confident in it. The hacked 1g mas just plain old sucked on my car, I didn't like what it did to my idle or the throttle response when transitioning from cruising to wot. IMHO, I would avoid any of the FCD's. Bigger injectors and the s-afc are the way.

Vern, Hey thanks for the info,
I have a safc not going to be installed until this Thursday.
hopefully between the safc and pauls datalogger we can get my car tuned and get rid of the fuel cut and the stuttering on the high end.
Do you know whats causing the stuttering above 5k rpms?

The s-afc will help some, especially if you are a little rich right now.
Stuttering is usually plugs and or wires. Although the coil, lifting the head and maxed injectors can all be the cause also.
Depending on what you current plug gap is, I'd try regapping the plugs at .028" first, if they are already at .028 then go down to .026" just because it's free.
The plugs are NGK's right? Either BPR6ES or BPR7ES are best. The 6ES's for lower boost seem best and the 7ES's for the higher boost levels.
Also check all the plug wire connections, at the coil and the plug. They should be a snug fit everywhere and almost "click" into place.
the plugs wires are snug
the plugs are bpr7es gap is .028 right now
I'm thinking I may be maxing out the fuel system
the stuttering is occuring in the high end of third gear.
Could I be maxing out the injectors without the use of fuel controll?
Could this be caused by my timing retarding?

Cool
Cool
What is the IPW on the logger at the top of third gear, at say 6500rpm?
What turbo do you have that would max the fuel system?
It's possible. Only a datalogger would know for sure, as your s-afc isn't hooked up yet.. If the s-afc was hooked up and you couldn't induce change in your O2 volts by adding air with the s-afc settings, then you would know if your injectors are maxed.
What fuel pump?
Timing retarding shouldn't cause stuttering, just a little higher egt's and a little less power.
The top of third puts a good load on the engine and cylinder pressures are high, it only takes one plug or funky plug wire to cause a BIG stuttering problem.
When the stuttering occurs do you see knock sums or timing being pulled back on the logger atthe same time?
Gotta run for now. Later.
hey vern,
Im running a 16g and stock fuel pump
undatalogged at this point.

Thanks again guys!
Hey Ryan, a 16g on the stock injectors and the stock fuel pump, and undatalogged... This makes for a bad combo you know.
At least get it hooked up to Paul's datalogger to verify what's up.

I've been meaning to just to see how its running even though theres nothing I can do to tune it yet.
tomorrow my safc will be hooked up so we can hopefully get it running right before the club clash on friday night.
