i just bought a 1992 240sx fastback and im trying to get it running. i was wandering if they even have an electronic advance and where would i disconnect it to check timing?

also if anyone has any ideas on what to do to it to get it started that would be helpful. i all ready put a new fual filter and spark plugs in it and i will be putting a distributor cap and roder on it tomorrow. i hope it will fire up. every once and a while it plays with the idea of firing up but then stalls out and gives up almost. i have good fual pressure and what i can tell as good spark but it smells like the timing is off. the exhaust smells like gas way more then it should. any help will be greatly appreciated

john

P.S. i did already check the compression on all cylinders and they seemed good.

That's for Honda's noob. If your timing is off with the 240, you'll have to reset the base timing to whatever it should be. That means busting out the timing gun.

UPDATE: i put the new distributor cap and roter and it didn't do anything. im thinking of just towing it in to a shop and having them diagnose it and tell me whats wrong with it. still looking for a good way to fix it my self. i do know that its not the fual line, its working just fine and when using starter fluid the engine acts the same. i checked the check engine light and it gave me the code 55 which the code test book said the fual management system is operational. (of something like that) im pritty much lost untel a shop looks at it. i tryed all my tricks for diagnostic and everything says it should run.

If the distributor is installed even a tooth off, it can mess everything up and prevent your car from starting/running. Checking both of these things takes a matter of minutes, so it's a good idea to get them out of the way before diagnosing your problem elsewhere, like at a shop.
