If i don't have my headlights on high beam, they are much dimmer. I compared my headlights (highbeam off) with another and it was dimmer. What could be the problem? I heard it was because I used to have a system without a capacitor and sucked a lot of the power from the alternator. Could this be the problem?

It has nothing to do with system capacitance. The person that told you understands very little about linear electronic systems.

You probably have lower wattage beams or a traditional bulb that doesn't output as much as zenon or other such newer bulbs. You might also have a dirty/pockmarked headlight cover.

no, the headlight cover isn't dirty. would anyone happen to know the wattage of a bulb for a 92-95 civic?

You could also have a sketchy connection going to the bulb in the wiring. That one is always fun to track down! It's also not that likely.
