I have a 96 Civic with a d16z6 engine. The engine that comes with those is d16y8. My car still has the d16y8 distributor, which only consists of one harness as shown below VVVVVVVVVVVVVV

and it doesn't fit right on the d16z6 engine and I also think that's the reason for the spark timing being all wrong and being all slow. Kuz I have been in other civics with that engine stock, and they're a lot faster than my car. My car still has the harness for the d16y8 distributor which only consists of one harness.

The distributor for the d16z6 engine consists of 2 harnesses as shown below VVVVVVVV

I want to get the right distributor that fits on the d16z6. So my question is: Is there a way that I can convert to the d16z6 distributor without having to convert from OBD1 to ODB0? I just want to change the distributor to fit the engine right.

You would need to get the distributor wiring diagrams for both dizzies and make sure the same wires are there in the new one, Then you can go ahead and chop off the connectors and rewire them.

Hey should I chop off the harness from the car or the distributor?

YAY!!! I got the new distributor to work! All I had to do is disconnect the pins from the 96 distributor harness and connect the pins from the 95 harness to the 96 harness. It worked just fine EXCEPT: the black and the blue wires/pins from the 95 had to be sanded down a little bit on the sides to fit the 96 harness plug. I'm so happy now. Because before the change, my car's VTEC system kicked in but didn't go anywhere. Now after the change when the VTEC kicks in, it pulls good. I wonder why it didn't pull before...

Hey I have the same problem as you. The only thing is the mine is a 99 EX and the blue wire of the 2-pin connector is cut. what did you do with the extra 2-wire plug, with those two wires?
