I need to get the shocks on my camry changed out. Shocks are around $90/each… Toyota recommends replacing the bearing/plate assembly when doing the shocks. Prices for the bearing plate is around $65.

These prices are all from checkers.

Toyota wants $177.46 for the front and $196.66 for the rear, STRUTS ONLY!!

My question is, do the strut bearings or bearing plates go bad?

Any help is appreciated.

yes they do, its very common. if you have any sort of a clunking noise when going over bumps that is the bearing plate. that is the most common failure i see. when the strut fails it leaks fluid. you must have it aligned after replacing the bearing plates.
