What engine would be a GOOD start when learning how to rebuild a motor?

An engine I could get for dirt cheap if not FREE and get the rebuild parts for dirt cheap as well!

I work mid-nights.... so when I'm off, I'm up all night with nothing to do. Might as well learn how to rebuild an engine!

Remember: DIRT CHEAP or FREE! HaHa!

I would say some domestic engine or even an economy import engine such as a kia or hyundai motor. Does it have to be fuel injected? You can find some old carbeureted motors for dirty cheap. But watch out though, some old motors may no longer have parts available.

Doesn't have to be FI. I'd rather learn on a newer motor though.

A Chevy 350. There are tons of them and a brand new block is less than 200 bucks. You can get the full motor for that from a salvage yard. And a rebuild kit starts at $350 and goes up. Some are even less.

Honda D-Series.

I vote for a D series also. Maybe Myshtern's? :)

You can find a running D series for like a hundred bucks. Go to Pull N Save and you can pull any motor for like $150 or something. that way you can pick the motor. There are always D series motors there.

Actually, since I don't know what kind of car you like you should just go to the yard and pull whatever type of motor you are interested in.

i'd go D series you got les to spend that way less shit to replace if you go with a domestic you got lot more shit to get 8 pistons not 4 same with the rods you get a v8 you gonna spend lots more $ i did a v6 3.2L acura legend i spent like 3000 on all the pistons ,rods, valvs, ect. And it was not worth it if you ask me. Now i got a boosted typeR motor and love it

Not looking to do a fancy rebuild.

Just basic intro. Taking the block apart with TONS of pics and using a basic rebuild kit and putting the engine back together properly.

Nothing special. I'm FAR from actually attempting to build a motor.

A Honda D or F series motor is at the top of my list. Pending finding my project car..... to keep me happy till I can what I really want!

Question:

What motors would be relatively inexpensive to pick up for a 90 CRX?

A motor I could rebuild (if necessary) along with some mild head work and then throw on a junk yard turbo setup for OJT!?

D15 from any 88-91 Civic will bolt and wire right in. Any later one will need a conversion harness.
