I have an actiontec dsl router with wireless capability. To make it wireless capable, you just plug in a PC card. The actiontec website says that the slot is 802.11b compliant.

I want to buy an 802.11g card for whatever I may need it for in the future. Will the 802.11g card work fine in the 802.11b slot?

I have yet to see an 802.11g NIC or access point that was not backward compatible with 802.11b. However, it's a matter of drivers in your case. I would assume that the Actiontec router only has drivers for certain 802.11b chipsets.

Backwards compatibility isnt the issue, upwards compatibility might be.

Ask actiontec/qwest - I'm sure someone can answer it from their point of view.

They dont support the wireless features on their piece of shit modems. Knowing actiontec...I'm going to go ahead and vote "NO" it wont work.

I hate qwest/actiontec, but I figure I might as well make use of what I have.

Here is the one I've got

I just ordered a netgear 802.11g card which was like less than half of the card actiontec sells.

It will work fine. I deal with actiontecs and G wireless cards all the time. No problems there. G is fully backwards compatible with B
