Lately ive been thinking that my car hasnt been pulling hard like it use to, but amy tells me im just getting use to it....
So today i decided to try something...I hooked up the pocketlogger(a godsend) and after the laser was warmed up i first reved (at idle) to about 2500rpm and got a few knock counts...I tried reving it to 5500rpms and by about 4500 im getting about 43 counts and 11 degrees timing.
I know that my lifter are ticking, I cleaned them once and that lasted about a month.
I dont think there is much else that can cause 43 counts of knock with only about a total of 3-5 psi(remember i was in neutral, my turbo spools slow but not that slow :rolleyes: ).
Also i know that my o2 sensor heating coil is bad and the new one should be in on saturday. It wont really do anything till its warm, but i dont think that would cause me to knock like this in neutral.
Anyone have any ideas??? I think im gonna have to get some race gas and throw it in there to see if that makes a difference.
thats
;gay;
hope you get to the bottom of it!

Dallas,
I would go get a can of MOA from BG products. MOA, Motor Oil Additive, will help reduce sticking lifters, unless they're really bad. BG products really work, they're what most professional shops use, they just don't tell the customers. It's worked quite well on many porsches that when older can have troublesome lifters. Autozone should still be selling it behind the counter, you'll have to ask.

Im gonna change the oil this weekend (synthetic) and try some of that stuff...On payday im gonna order some of the new revised lifters....Theres a place that has them for about $126 for all 16.

I think you should see how many counts of knock you get under load. Just revving it up isn't giving you the real picture. Mine does about the same thing when I rev it.

Damn, im feeling like a post whore lately.....;gay;
I ran a few logs today, actually i ran it for a while.
I found that it does it with just the slightest amount of acceleration. But it stops as soon as the o2 sensor starts working...The thing is that the o2 will stop working if i sit at a light for a few seconds....and i have to drive a few to get it to work again.
My new o2 will be in here in a few days so ill get that installed and see if that changes things.

hey Dallas..
if you cant find any MOA, let me know.. i have some in my tool box
you can swing by my work and i'll give you a can.. that stuff works wonders.. just like 951 porche says
i use it in all of my cars
I had nasty lifter tick in the DSM, and switching from Mobil 1 10-30 to Valvoline 20-50 racing oil helped somewhat. The 1g lifters are just prone to getting clogged. Replacing them with "2g" parts has a nice effect on tick as well.
Are you getting the parts from Conicelli? If not, they probably have the best pricing on OEM parts. Conicelli Mitsu - google should find their website for you.
I took a minute and here's their mitsu parts page. Call 'em and ask about the "2g" lifters.

Most every DSM tmolog that I've seen has some knock coming off idle, so perhaps that is normal. How do you know your O2 sensor isn't heating properly? How old is the O2 sensor? Are you burning leaded fuel?

I guess there is a place this guy found that has the same lifters that mitsu gets from the manufaturer...They are $7.74 each.
Heres where i heard about it (http://www.dsmtalk.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=42413&highlight=lifter+tick)
I know that the o2 isnt heating properly cause when i start it in the morning it does nothing but sit a .02v. After a bit it starts to come alive a little...if i wait till the car is fully warmed and boost a little it will work fine, untill i stop and idle. I have the new o2 at suby sports, im gonna put it in tomarrow morning.
Hey 12secCivy--
where do you work, i havent checked yet but i dont know if the local store will have it...
