not all of them do, I had meet lots of them after I did my time as a Ranger, Sniper and a lot of deployments I got the honor of being a Network Administrator and I used to go to the clubs when everyone was out at the field and there were lots of wives that would go just to talk to other wives and such, there were a lot that were scandalous though

Don't worry all will be good... if you get too worried I can always go down there and check on him... LOL, not really but I could go on the base there it is nice and their PX is sweet

Yeah really, im sure a lot of the wives are scandalous, but thas not for me!. I wish his 3 months were all over with, i miss him like crazy, i dunno what to do all i wanna do is stay home n cry my eyez out lol!. I never thought it would be this hard, but i know in the long run it'll be worth it, but i also know when he deploys for months at a time it'll be as hard as is it now!. So he should be arriving at the base here in about 10-40 mintues, what exactly do they do right away when they get there? and what can they possibly be doing so they wont be able to sleep till tuesday night?
TXKompressor
03-13-2006, 07:55 PM
They basically go through getting checked in they do alot of medical check ups and vision testing and over all mental status.. they then will get all enrolled with their benefits and such, then they will get sent to their Boot camp company or battalion... then the hard work begins. He should be able to call you in the next two days and then when he is in full blown boot camp it is maybe once a week (only maybe though) I did not talk to anyone for over 9 months...
The reason he will not be able to sleep till tuesday night is they got to give them the start of it all and try to get them break down so they can seperate the men from the boys... they will test their every weakness, trying to get them to breakdown, keeping them up all night, yelling at them, push ups, sit ups and many other physical and mental tests too, they will also test how they react to authority...

you'll get one phone call from him letting you know that he made it to the recruit depot okay. then you'll get another one sometime when he has already picked up with his platoon. don't expect to get a phone call every week from him as it won't happen. letters are key and mail call is what every recruit looks forward to every day. semper fi

well the only reason I said once a week is because all the Jarheads I talked to got it... Like I said I did not talk to anyone in 9 months through Basic, through Airborne, through Air Assault, through Ranger school and then finally in Sniper school I got to call someone, almost did not know what to do or say... damn near forgot to dial...
No worries the are pretty soft in the Marines so he will be ok and if you do not hear from him then someone messed up
racer_rex89
03-13-2006, 09:44 PM
Yeah, well i hope he wont take all that yelling and everything else to the heart. I know Black Friday will be hard for him also cuz thats the first day they meet their Drill Instructors!. Do any of you guys know when he'll be able to right? and another thing, when do they get their platoon number or whatever?

Well see, he left the airport to head up to San Diego today at about 6:00pm so he said he should arrive in San Diego tonight at 7:00pm or 7:30 pm at the latest, and i know he's already there but i havent heard anything from him yet!. When they get off the bus do they yell at everybody? Do they get the the Batallion or Platoon number or whatever it's called the night they arrive?

Well i wanna know if he's alright and if he got there already and safe, becuase since he said he was getting ready to get on his plane, that was the last time i talked to him and i havent heard from him since, like i said above, i hope everythings fine and hes safe!. Also, i know its 12 weeks of bootcamp but do the 12 weeks start the day they ship out or does it start friday? the first day they meet their drill instructors and actually start? Like for instance, since he shipped out today and got there today, can i actually start counting down the 12 weeks?

I would love for you guys to go through Ranger training, Hell even one of the guys I went to Sniper training in DC that was with The USMC Recon. said that the sniper training there was even harder then his boot camp... I was blown away for that was the first time I got any breaks in 9 months of training... I ain't saying it is soft in comparison to the Air Force or even the Navy. But there is much harder and hell there is much softer too... girlss get it easy... I had a chance to train a few USMC during boot camp at Camp Pendelton on the M107 .50 cal sniper rifle... It was not too bad... I spent 5 weeks there and the base was nice... The biggest part for the recruits was the mental game to me... same as Infantry in the army.. the compare... but I thought it was pretty soft... IMHO... have you guys experienced Ranger training or SF training?

Well, comparing Rangers to your basic Marine is not really proper, that is comparing special forces to the basic trained. Yes, the Marine style of boot camp is head and shoulders above all other basic training programs, it is longer, more intense, and doesn't have "stress cards". However, compared to a Ranger or any special forces brotha for that matter is kind of ridiculous. They are specialized, which anyone (well almost anyone) has the opportunity to do after boot camp. Everyone has their so called "elite", the army has rangers, navy has seals, air force has.......well nevermind them, and marines have force recon. Now, comparing Force Recon and Rangers, that is a pretty good battle, both are trained extremely well, and know things that most don't. Which then it all comes down to pride, has nothing to do with skill or training, they are at the top of their game and the argument of "who is better" comes down to a he said/he said war of words. So, in closing...
Basic: Air Force < Navy < Army < Marines
Elite: My pee pee is bigger than yours contest...

They werent in bootcamp if you were training them on the M107. I can assure you that unless it was more then 12 years ago. I will agree that bootcamp isnt the HARDEST thing. Sere school was definitely harder for me. I cant say I went to Ranger training and wont pretend to think it was easy. But I knew a few Rangers and when they came to okinawa for JWTC they always complained that it was harder then anything else... But difficulty and shitty conditions are two different things and both are subject to opinion. Oh and girls Bootcamp in the Marine Corps is a joke... I dont think it should be allowed.

Except this Basic: Airforce < Navy < Army = Marines and why I say this is that they have similar job functions and the majority of the trained are for some sort of front end contact... Now when we are talking your MC basic to ARMY, very much equal and has the same standards, Shoot, move and communicate..
Ok enough thread jacking, and I am sorry ladies I brought on so much Drama...
Also Mrs. Racer_rex89, he will be fine, have faith and keep in your prayers and all will come out great, he will come out of Boot Camp, I highly disciplined, Highly motivated individual that is in the best shape of his life. I remember those days, man at times I miss it, others not so much. out of 5 years served I spent about 6 months in the states... But when he gets out of boot camp, life is going to come together in a way that only the military knows how... It is going to open a lot of doors to both of your futures.. At time it is going to be tough and at other times you guys are going to have the greatest times of your lives. Enjoy, Congrats and I know I speak for alot of people on here that "We" have faith that all will be great and he will be one of the Few and the Proud to protect our country.

Smart... I was going to get out after three (that was my initial sign up) but then I went to Mogadishu and spent about 4 months there and had fun killing people, then off to Haiti, more fun killing people... got back for a week and re-enlisted for 2 more years and got to go to Macedonia/Bosnia and got stabbed and had more fun killing people... Did a couple of other small missions in Korea and Serbia... came back and they made me a Network Admin, bastards, it was more fun in the field and being deployed, I was making hella good money doing so too...
Hey to all that served, it does not matter what you did or what branch you are in, you served you protected and thats all that matters, either fighting or supporting you are just as important as any other person in the military...

you'll get a letter from your husband stating that he is okay and he'll give you a general address along with his platoon number and company in which he is in. he wont' get name tapes just yet, thats after first phase...the first few days he'll just be known as "freakin you who" , "recruit smuckatelly" etc. as far as rank, he wont' have a rank until after boot camp, either private, PFC, or if he's the company honor grad, LCpl. hope this helps

Ha ha ha ha... No he will learn real quick to just let them yell at you... this is true I learned, I am sure everyone here that served did too... Play the Game is what I was told by my father when I went in and those words stuck with me the whole time I was in... Play it like its a game...
It took me about a week before I could even write anybody to tell them what my address is... I have seen some places that allow the soldiers to write after they find out where they go, It is even a class and all, well kind of.. it is mostly them yelling at you telling you how to write it correctly and all...
Yeah I served 5 years as a U.S. Army Ranger in the 1st Ranger Brigade at Fort Benning Georgia. We used to always have fun with the n00bs.. it was good times...
My son is a great kids and I am never too hard but I do not let off the discipline... some people think it is crazy when he stands in the corner from misbehaving he stands in it at full attention, straight as a board and never taking his eyes off of looking straight forward... He is a good kid for sure, he has his moments, just wish I could get him to listen to my girlfriend a little better though... guess she doesn't have the crazy eyes, or DI voice... she is soft. but she does a great job with my daughter...

You guys forgot Coast Gaurd boot camp! I used to have to go do maintenance on some air traffic control radios we kept in a shed on the Coast Gaurd boot camp base up in Cape May, New Jersey. It was literally like summer camp, everyone was so nice and pleasant. It made Navy boot camp look brutal, and I had a good time at Navy boot camp. I lost 85 pounds in three weeks at boot camp, they ran my ass off every day, although I was a bit of a lard-ass (okay, I was a GIANT lard-ass). I also showed up with a shaved head, which really pissed off the barbers, so they just scuffed up my head with the clippers.
I remember when the carriers left port in Norfolk, the base club was a meat market, packs of Navy wives would prowl the base club looking for action, grabbing guys asses as we walked by their tables, it was ridiculous.

when we got to go into a platoon for training I think the best technique was marching the platoon to an edge of a field and they know they are going to get some shit so anticipation is rolling off the platoon. You halt them face them towards you and just fall them out. They dont know what to do... you wait a sec and then you point and about a half mile away is a drill intructor who yells "FALL IN" Recruits be running like idiots to get there picking up the fat bodys who dont make it. Once they fall in you do it again the other way... They run into each other... They start yelling at each other... AHHHHH good times!

I was in my 20's when I went in, about the same age as my DI, so he wasn't too hard on me and we would talkk to each other like people sometimes. I had something come up one day and needed to go somewhere and do something and wasn't thinking about it, so I opened the door to his office, popped my head in and said "Hey Jeff, I gotta go over to the parade grounds and drill with the recruit choir, so I'm out of here for a couple hours". He was sitting there with some other people in some kind of meeting and they all stared at me slack-jawed. Then I realized what I had done and said I could try it again with all the standing at attention and saluting and formal requesting, or maybe they'd just like me to start doing pushups until they got tired. They picked option B.
Maybe it was just a Navy thing, but they used to "make it rain" when we screwed up. They'd crowd us all into a small compartment, then make us exercise until we generated so much heat and moisture that the condensation started dripping off of the ceiling onto us like it was raining. That was kind of cool the first couple of times.

well as the old guy I have to put my .02 in, when I went through boot it was 14 weeks of hell and than 4 more weeks at BITS in camp pend. after that 12 more weeks in force recon at san mateo 1st bat. 9th marines any Marines should know who they were. we didnt have the luxurary of barracks we slept in tents with oil burning stoves for heat, except at BITS we had quansent huts, back than 1970-1974 we got 1 call to tell everyone i'm here and that was it till end of training. after recon I had a couple of choices, embasy school in DC or viet nam I opted for school at the time, went through it and decided that it wasnt for me so next thing I knew a big RED TAG deployment to VN. 6 months there got TAD to a special forces unit because of my training in recon, 4 mon later back to the 9th marines to finish my 1st tour, than home for 30 days. I did 2 tours in VN both with the 9th but I also got to see the rest of the world by ship and by foot. If I had to do it again I would great experiance and to you mrs.racer rex he'll be fine dont worry the Marines take care of them selves, and today there are alot of oppertunities in the corps. depends on what he wants to do,hang in there,SEMPER FI

Hey everybody, I know I havent been on in weeks, again i've been on another website learning as much as i oculd and getting as much help as i can to stay strong for my husband while he's in bootcamp. I recieved a letter from him today that he wrote March 29, 2006. He asked me to come on here to let you all know that he's fine. Now, I recieved a phone call from him March 31, 2006. He had informed me that he is going to M.R.P (Medical Rehabilitation Platoon) because he has a stress fracture due to his knee and he's also sick, he just had a cold, he thought he had bronchitis. As far as I know he's still in there and he'll probably be in there for another couple of weeks and I hope it don't take very long to heal. So he's in MRP right now.
I'm asking all of you to please keep Sal in your prayers, I will appreciate it and I'm sure he will as well. In his letter today, he also told me that they told him that he has a 90% chance of going to Iraq. I'm very scared for him!.
I'm gonna go for now so i'll let you all know the progress with my husband as soon as i find out!. You all take care! bye

Because I am nice I wont flame all over this... It was a joke... One that was played on me. Worse thing that would happen is he would do some extra pushups! Really BootCamp is the easiest thing in the Marine Corps so lighten up he has a much longer, harder road when he hits the fleet! So as a wife of a Marine you need to learn to take things in stride! And to put a glower on things and to maybe show that things will be harder for you then him 65 percent of married Marines get divorced on their first tour. Not trying to scare you but chill and be merry!
Are you from Portugal? LOL! And he wasnt talking to your man unless he drives like shit!

You know its changed a lot. When I was in I had this bitch of a Sgt. She had only been in 19 months.. I was a Cpl with 3 years and I was considered fast in my MOS. Yes, it has changed a little bit from the old corps stories my uncle use to tell me. As far as getting IT'd, on the male side, I don't think that has changed any. Shoot, I was the guide all the way til the end of boot camp and I got smoked checked for every little thing. If a recruit didn't do something correctly, I would here "GUIDE!!!!!!!"
