The new ish of SCC just came out and they tested the stage zero kit on their project WRX and netted 41whp. It's baseline tested at 167whp and now makes 208. Pretty impressive and costs about a grand.
I just love turbo cars.

i'll have a turbo one day :fu: but thats pretty impressive gains for it, what does that include?

The kit consists of a Vishnu tuned unichip,up pipe, one range colder plugs, ball valve boost controller,a billet underdrive pulley and new belts.
They also tested several exhausts and netted 215-218whp along with the kit.

Stage one will be another 40HP to the wheels with a Turbo back exhaust and some other undisclosed goodies.
:spit:
whats the stock exhaust like on a wrx? it seems that I read somewhere that it has multiple cats. if this is true 40+ hp from a turbo back should be reallity!

Now,now;not everything can respond as well as a DSM.:p Or a Supra. (150whp for just over a grand)
Also remember this is with the OBDII computer and the stock turbo which I think is equivalent to the T25.

Jesus man the car has been out for 1 year. I seem to always forget that the mighty "supra" is the pinnacle of the import world. Everything must revolve around it. and the owners egos.
Uhh,excuse me? Did you get up on the wrong side of the bed this morning? Ego? WTF are you referring to, eh?
Would -you- spend $1000 for 40 HP? I'd think that most anyone with even the most basic of turbocharged motor skills could extract 25 hp from the WRX for, say, $250. Gut the cats/boost gauge/K&N/boost bleeder.
Sheesh. Reality check.

40 hp for $1000 is a bad deal? Come to the world of NA cars where, on average, $100 per pony is considered the norm.
I've never built an N/A car, so yes - $1k for 40 hp seems a bit on the steep side to me.

How much did your first 40 horses on your DSM cost? It seems to me that most people get about 40 horses when they put a exhaust K&N and up the boost to 16psi on a DSM.
The first DSM mods were pretty cheap - a $10 bleeder to up the boost from 11 to 16, a $40 K&N air filter and a $35 boost gauge. I'm guessing that gave about 50 hp. Well, maybe not 50, but at least 30 - 35...

Welcome to the world of OBD2 cars and three catalytics on one exhaust system I guess. :)

What about the clutch you'll need after about three runs with that setup? ;)
:)
At that time I wasn't into drag racing, just into that 'the seat is eating me' feeling when the add'l boost came on. Nothing like that first non-stock boost level rush...
OBD2 - yuck. Luckily my current car is still OBD1. I do miss out on the cool OBD2 monitors, but ...
Even my OBD1 car had twin cats. Just replacing the stock downpipe on my current (ego tripping god of all imports pinnacle of the import world) car provides a dyno proven 50 -wheel- hp.
Kudos to forced induction. :)

Yep,you hit it on the nose. :p
K&N 12 to 14 whp - $40
catback exhaust 15 to 17whp - $400
racepipe 5whp - $50
manual boost controller set 5 psi over stock 30whp - $50
DSMs are good for around 60-70whp for less than $600. I know it could be done even cheaper but I figured I'd use average prices. (I know you can make a mbc for under $20)
Of course that will double when you add a race clutch (you will need it soon after you add the mods) but still good returns for the $$$.

I guess your original post rubbed me the wrong way, because it added nothing to the thread. It seemed to be another ignorant post.
Us people who are new to forced induction love to get 40 WHP for $1000. If an owner of a Civic or Integra could get 40 WHP for $1000 they would kill over!
You were probably sub consciously comparing all Imports to your supra, where 1000 dollars can get you 100 WHP. John, try to remember your car is an exception in the import community. Every 100 you spend on your supra is a 1000 that Newt2 has to spend on his integra for the same results.

I saw a dyno test on a '95 Supra in Turbo magazine a while back and it baseline tested at 285.6whp and with just a turbo back exhaust and K&N filter it dynoed at 363.4whp.
So by just letting it breathe better the car put out 78 more horses to the ground.
I guess that is one restrictive exhaust.
I want 1 hp per 1$ I spend!;RoCkOn;

Hell I spent about 2300 dollars for my firts 40 hp upgrade, then 200 more for another 20 or 30, but still....

One thing with the WRX you need to take into account is that it's producing more power stock than a DSM is and it's doing it on the same 2.0 liters of displacement. It runs 13.5 psi right off the showroom floor, so you're not going to get the big gain from upping the boost to 16psi like you would on a DSM going from 11 to 16psi.
With the same amount invested in mods, you should have two equally performing cars, but the WRX will spank a DSM stock vs. stock.

HAHAHAHA, no I don't.
If drag racing was my main reason for being into cars, I would have never bought an Integra Type R to begin with.
I may only be OK fast is a straight line, but I'll openly challenge any car on the board to a 15 lap timed raced around Second Creek (yes john, even yours). :) I may or may not win, but nobody's going to just walk away from me.
I think I'll pass on the 2nd creek offer, thanks. :) I'd love some driving tips, tho. And after I get some KYBs on the car, maybe it'll behave better...
I had a pretty seasoned road racer in the car, and he got a lot of entertainment watching me drag race around the course. Hard shifting thru the corners, staying on throttle till the last possible second (more often than not, way too late) approacing corners, etc. It was fun, but my car wasn't built to do that. :)

You and I would have an interesting race around 2nd Creek since that's exactly how I drove around it,just ask Pat.

Second Creek was real fun when I went last time.... Can't wait to do it again for a full day and new tires :)
Oh yeah and I had to buy a new motor to get about 40 hp more...around $3000

Hmm, thats pretty big talk saying that nobody's going to walk away from you. Not everyone on this board is just into street racing. Some of us do have cars built to handle and brake. I know I would never make a statement like that.

Did I or did I not say that "I may or may not win"? I'm not cocky enough to think I'm invincible, I just know what my car's good at and I've also been doing SCCA competition for 5 or 6 years now so I somewhat rely on experience to back up what my car can't.
Besides, I've been on this board since the very first day and I know for a fact that 99% of the people here don't autocross or road race.
The whole point of that statement was to piss someone off. I'm glad it worked. :)

Pat you are a damn good corner carver. I wouldn't mind some driving tips as well. Last time and the first time I auto x'ed my car I pushed way too hard into the corners. Big mistake especially after taking a drive with a miata driver that blew my doors off. He was so smooth through the course compared to me.

The biggest mistakes I saw people making at the last track day was turning while braking and coasting through the turns. It's better to start slow and figure out the best point to begin braking, and then accelerate all the way through the turn.
The RWD crowd has to be a little careful with that, but if done right they can get that tail out attitude easier than us and actually follow a better line because of it.
Also learning to rev match your downshifts is extremely helpfull. Heel toeing takes some practice but you'll go a lot faster if your car isn't bucking and heaving from a normal downshift while going into a corner. Practice on the streets, when you slow down for a corner put half of your shoe on the brake and let the other half hang off of the side of the pedal towards the gas. Once you've got most of your braking done, put in the clutch, roll your foot onto the gas real quick to rev the engine up (don't let up on the brakes though) and then downshift and release the clutch. If you do it right you won't feel any acceleration or engine braking at all. You'll just hear the engine rev up and the car will ride smooth. Pedal covers help to bring the pedals closer together. Most cars have too much seperation because there were too many morons out there hitting the gas when they went for the brakes and the car companies got sued.

Considering I rode with you around the track for about 4 laps, I know that you're a good corner carver. However, I think that S2000 was doing pretty awesome and looked damn good doing it too... we were all marveling at how flat that thing stayed in the corners, barely any body rock at all. I wish I was able to ride in that car around the track too.
