I'm sure we all got the e-mail but I'm surprised that it will be broken this year....or hopefully. The Celica ran 199.33-mph in its first public debut in Gainesville.

So what did it do in the 1/4? Very low seven I'd presume.

Hey,at least it's running a Toyota V8 engine. It'll run a high 6 that's pro stock car territory and how much of Warren Johnson's car is a Grand Am?
Heh heh heh. These cars are funny. It's not a "celica" by a longshot. Just like the "honda" that Step Papadakis drives.

Yeah but 199 mph is 199 mph. Thats pretty good no matter who made the parts.

Yep,199 is fast period and it is still using a Toyota motor. Did you really think a actual original block 4 banger was gonna turn 200mph? Maybe someday............

I dont think it is that great personally. I know 199 is fast and all, but taht isnt anything a V8 hasn't done before.

But it is just the beginning for an import V8 and just a tad over 5 liters.
You're just hard to impress Steve. :smashfrea

fast it is, but like I said no new ground there. I also think that cars like those since they are far and few between in the import world should try thier luck against some of the NHRA guys. Now it would be impressive to see some "pro-stock" imports and the like running against the NHRA pro-stock cars.....Personally when it comes to drag racing in teh pro world I am less intersted in Import drag racing and a lot more interested in top fuel and funny car.

It won't be too far off. We'll see import bodied funny cars in the next couple of years.
Heck, Toyota's in NASCAR right now. Only at the lower levels, but next year they'll have a Craftsman Truck Series Tacoma and a couple years later we should see a Winston Cup Camry.

Actually at the moment Gary Scelzi is driving a top fuel Celica bodied funny car fully sponsored by TRD.
