My friend is making me some 3d objects on 3 max. Is there any program i can download so that I am able to just view the things he sends me? Or will I have to have 3d max to view them?

depends on the format he sends them in and (partially) what version of 3D Max he is using.

yep. He could send you a plain dxf that you can read in several programs, but it wont have the surfaces or textures. There are a few other formats as well

dude 3D Max will render in any compression you want, minus a few.. you can render in .jpg, .gif, .avi, .mov, there are a grip...

here some of these are renderings of mine that I have been messing around with the castle you may see soon in Worlds of Warcraft... the house scenes are going to be for a horror/shooter coming out for PS3...

edit the castle will not attach from home, I will get it from work tomorrow.. lol

i am asking, is there a program that I can use to view the 3d model so that I can rotate it and such. Not just a picture, but being able to see all dimensions.

nope not in an aspect that you could actually be able to do what you want listed in your last post... he can export to .dxf, .dwg and a couple of others but they will not give you the ability to what you are looking for... I have 3DS Max 7 that I will sell you for $800 (no bullshit hacked fucking version either) comes with $8k worth of bought and registered (transferable) plugins too... I just got Maya and 3DS Max 8 from my company Blizzard here in Irvine YO!!!

You live in Irvine? I live about 3 cities south of you. I my self do not need the program. What it is, I own a clothing company, my friend made 3d models of the shirts and sweatshirts that I own. With that, I put my designs on them. Now with those designs, i am wanting to just be able to show Retailers and represenitives my product in a 3d perspective. I do not want to create them, for I already have them. Just be able to to view them.

Thank you for the help.

gotcha... I will check it out with a few people here at work and see if they make anything that can be used as .max or .3ds viewer.... the models could be plugged in with your designs on them in Max and then they could be done as a JAVA virtual viewer (kind of like those virtual walk-through thingys for apartment). Good idea for a presentation though...

I work in Irvine and Live in Huntington Beach... were are you at???
