..............and he kicked the crap out of me. I'm very impressed to say the least. That is one of the few import/import races I have lost. We raced from a roll 3 times. Each was fairly short, only a gear or two. Each time he had at least two cars on me and pulling. Good run!!!

Yah it was a pretty good couple of SHORT runs [heh]. I really wished we could have all 3 lined up for that whole run on ... you know the street ;).
All I have to say about 99SIVtec is DAMN that is a wicked sounding engine with that electric drill.... err I mean supercharger under the hood :). I don't think I have ever heard a supercharged 4 banger in person. Sounded pretty mean.
Good fun though  ... up until we saw the under cover cop. Thankfully we were all waiting at a light [heh].
EDIT: Oh and I forgot to mention... I HIGHLY suggest upgrading to a "big brake kit" [heh].

No joke, I thought I was going to die when it came time to stop for the light. I've never had that feeling before. The car got very light and kind of floated around. Not cool at all. Looks like one of my next investments will be some rotors :)

Ive ridden in Davids car and its pulls quite strong...maybe not as much as David Landry, but harder than mine none the less.
I hope you get your high 12 like you want with it, you have enough money into it.

I ran at Phoenix AZ in 50F weather at night: 13.5@100mph w/2.0 60'
I ran at PMI about 4 weeks ago (opening TNT day): 13.8@98 w/2.1 60'
Both of those runs were on about 15-15.5psi on stock 440cc injectors and no tuning. Since then I have gotten it dyno/ECU tuned with 550cc injectors and run about 17-18psi now. There is also a long list of mods so far:
-VF22 IHI turbo (560cfm range) ballbearing
-air-to-water intercooler
-removed 2 of 3 cats in exhaust
-3" MRT turbo back exhaust
-AEM CAI
-lightened pullies
-GSS342 fuel pump
-550cc injectors
-Blitz DSBC @ 17.5-18psi daily
-oil catch can (homemade)
-gauges etc...
-have a lightened flywheel sitting in the garage 13.5lbs vs. stock 26lbs. Waiting for money to buy a new stock clutch ;). That's about it as far as engine mods go.
People at altitude (4000ft. and under) have run 12's on a similar setup or a little less. But they also get 1.7-1.8 60'. We will see. I think I am going to wait for Friday night drags down at PMI before I go back. Closer than Bandi and CHEAPER =) for more than 3 runs [heh].
Even if I don't hit 12's I don't think I will feel that bad. I mean the fastest streetable import that I saw at Bandi last weekend was a 13.0 flat which was very impressive. Even the other WRX's that ran I knew a little bit and they were heavily modded like myself and only running 13.8 I think with 2.0 60' s. I REALLY wanted to see Dave Landry run his MONSTER DSM but I didn't see him there.
sounds like a nice setup, you should kick my ass:smashfrea
I bet you and paul (v8spankr) would have an interesting race!

wrxnate - Who was in the silver WRX that day? I thought he had the upgraded turbo, injectors, basically everything that Jama had minus an upgraded intercooler?
And I thought he was running 19psi or so and was in the 13.8 range? Maybe I am wrong.
That is pretty impressive as far as your mods go and the altitude factor. When I ran my 13.8 w 2.1 60' I had uppipe, AEM CAI, lightened pullies more than you... goes to show the lack of benifit of them... or the not-so-good driver [heh]. Good job though. Did you run this last week at Bandi again?

Sounds like WRXThis(Brian). Funny how folks go to the strip and don't run what they think they will and all of a sudden "don't care about drag racing" anymore.
I ran a 13.9 with a considerable amount of mods. Am I happy?
Yes, I got into the 13's and I watched a Viper run numerous low 14s. No, the car is capable of much more. Through faults of my own the car only managed a 13.9. Will I quit drag racing? No! No! and NO!
Where's the fun in just throwing on parts and trying to go fast. You gotta tune and drive. Probably the two more imporant parts of the fast car equation.

the Silver car was WRXThis on i-club and ya....I was fairly disappointed in Brians runs he ran 14.1, 15.1, 13.9, 14.7...he has too many mods to list..and a huge turbo.....I am very happy with my runs for sure!!

I have the stock turbo, Stock exhaust, MBC @ 15lbs. and Vishnu Stage Zero and ran 14.10 so 13.99 should not be a problem with just an exhaust.

Dustin - YAH but what kind of 60' you pulling :)? I have found that makes a HUGE difference.
I mean look at WRXThis times (as posted by wrxnate) 14.1, 15.1, 13.9, 14.7. I bet those wide variances came from 60' ranging from 2.0-2.3. The WRX is ALL about the launch I am afraid.
Just curious what were your trap speeds? Those seem to be a little more consistant and immune to launch times.

Nice times Dustin, saw you on one run and light up a low 14...congrats. I did notice this wind took a chunk of mph on my last run...which was my fastest though.

"Kit Consists of:
Vishnu Up-pipe
Vishnu Underdrive Pulley
Vishnu-Tuned Unichip
Manual Boost Controller
Colder Spark Plugs"
$995
good deal really!! and 14.1, Awesome!!!
I ran twice:
14.4 with a 2.285 60' @ 14.5 psi
13.995 with 2.045 @ 16 psi
2nd run the clutch was slipping 13.5 is not out of reach..............
My VF23 cost about the same as your whole kit, but...in the long run you will still want to pick a bigger turbo up...on top of that you need to change your Unichip map when you do so......
I have no up-pipe
no Engine management
no change in spark plugs
basically a turbo and an exhaust for me...the only reason I have the MBC is boost spikes of 20+ psi with the VF23 (car hauled ass);) I have 2k in mods
future plans:
EBC
FMIC
Link stand alone ECU
Coil overs
Big ass brakes
Seats
good run man..Shiv REALLY knows what he is doing!!

Thanks Nate, but to be honest I was a little disappointed. I was reading all of those low 13's at sea level and figured I could at least run a 13.99 or better. We'll see what it will do on Friday

How are you Subi's drivelines holding up so far? How many horses do you think the stock drivelines will hold?
davidm_sh
04-24-2002, 12:01 PM
V8Spankr - I think we talked a little bit about this at the last meet. But right now I am pushing 350hp at the crank. I know of some people in the country pushing a little over 400hp at the crank.
I think it ultimatly boils down to driving style. I am sure someone could easily break the tranny with the stock 227hp. I have the stock clutch in and it works just fine. I have no intention on upgrading it too help save my tranny :).
I don't really know how it would hold up too continual drag racing and hard launching. So far I have only heard of one person who broke the transmission and that was after he put a pretty upgraded clutch in it. The car is new so only time will tell [heh].
V8SpankR
04-24-2002, 12:49 PM
Yep,driving style is a big key in regards to the life and longevity of an AWD driveline.
I raise the clutch pedal off the floor till I feel the car start to inch forward and then feed the throttle in very quickly just short of dumping it and "bang" you're off. I eat the clutch a little with each launch but it's better than the tranny. BTW I do have a heavy 2600lb clutch but I've really learned the feel and know my engagement point very well so I've learned how to reduce the shock on the driveline and still can get 1.8 60's consistently.
phast
04-25-2002, 05:11 PM
I have a dozen drag passes on the car and things are still fine.
I don't do many hard launches, but I do shift pretty hard. I feel/hear some grinding on the 2-3 shift when racing, but around town it's no problems.

Today after i detailed David's WRX he took me for a ride... all i have to say is... WOW... i bet it was even rather fast before i made it all smooth...
