Everyone said it was impossible to uncap a cable modem from the users end. Seems a few people found a way around that :)
I have not tried it yet, but know a few on speedguide.net that have. It would seem that it works but that you will get caught so I don't recommend doing it............

FYI this is how to STEAL cable modem service. If you already have it, it does you no good.

Not true at all. The cable company caps your upstream bandwidth at 256kb or 16KB........ This allows you to override this setting allowing for 1.2MB max upstream and 3-4 MB downstream. I suppose you could use it to steal cable service, but that is not teh main intent.

yeah..saw that info a while ago. Pretty sure they have all of us little users on bandwidth monitors now. Bet you would send a flag pretty high in the air once you had your upstream that high.

AT&T put a filter on our cable modem so now we can't split the signal and get cable TV anymore. Strange thing is I can still get SpeedVision (Ch. 77) on my tv. I think it is only on my tv too.

I know this is out of the blue. But does anyone know if you can get Cable TV out of a Digital Phone Line? Any help would be greatly Apreciated. Thanks!

For that filter thing you can just unscrew it out of the splitter and you'll be able to get cable out of it again. I think anyways.

yeah, they did that to our place too, just go to where your cable comes in, there should be a silver filter, about 3-4 inches long, shaped like a rifle bullet, just take it out and it's all gravey

i tried many different ways to uncap my cable modem, when i used to have one... all the people ive talked to who were actually successful in uncapping their modems had the first DOCSYS modems, on which the uncapping would work, but the newer models like most people have, i havent heard about anyone uncapping those. I actually ran an FTP server for 3 years on 128kbps and then AT&T doubled that, but now I cant even run it with Earthlink DSL because of firewalls/routers, all that crap. cant wait to go back to cable.
I work for a cable company and we sweep on a regular basis in wisconsin. everyone here that has ever tried that has gotten caught within a day. also a friend of mine uncapped his mdm with another major provider and he was caught within a day. he got a warning. the ones we catch don't. those guys nolonger have service and can never have service with us again.
just to forewarn anyone thinking of trying this. you prolly will get caught. don't want you going back to a dial-up for life :D
Uncapping is actually stealing bandwidth, not service. I think.
