Hey guys i have a problem when my car idles cold. The revs seem to jump up and down from 1000rpms to 2000rpms...this is when the car is cool. Once ive been running around for a few mins and the car is hot it stops. Its very annoying because when i pull up to traffic lights people think im messing with them or encouraging a race or something. I was thinking it could be a vacume line or something??? Anyone ever had the same problem???. thanks Murph;UgH:

Idle Air Control Valve. Go get a haynes manual for your car. Then start reading. It will help you greatly.

I know they are, they definitely helped me learning about cars. I just think you could have put it in a little nicer way that's all. ;)

hey 2gencrx....i finally got time to pull off that part.....it seems to have helped but hasn't fixed the problem. I have a feeling its really gunked up inside where the actual valve is. When it gets hot, it works well....when its warming up i believe its getting stuck. I will pull it back off another day to re spray it with the carb cleaner. Thanks for the help man, learned something new.

maybe some one else has better insight on this(Tobi.... lol) but i've been told that the seals in the IACV tend to get brittle and crack letting air bypass through the valve. Not sure on the truth in that though. It might need to be replaced.

that could very well be the problem, if cleaning it out doesnt help try and get a new( or newer ) one from a junkyard or a friend or from ebay or something
any bseries iacv will fit it im using one from a 98 b18b on my b16a :D let me know if you need any more help with it

Is the idle high or erractic when the outside temp is cold? Or just when the engine is heating? If it's the former then it could also/instead be the Intake Air Temp sensor.

Hey nxbrennan the idle is erratic when engine is heating up. Once motor is warm there is no problem at all. The suggestion 2genCRX made has actually helped somewhat, however not solved the problem. I will check my hanes for the Intake Air Temp Sensor location and take a look at it. Thanks for all the replys guys, this is helping a lot.
