is it normal for an integra to come out of gear without pushing on the clutch?... like i drive up to about 2500 rpm ( my usual rpm when i shift gears) and i can pull the shifter out of gear... any gear. is taht normal for an integra or is my clutch done with?

Sounds normal, and this is the case with most cars with manual transmissions. If you aren't stepping on the gas, you can usually pull it out of gear without using the clutch. You can even put it into another gear without the clutch if you get the engine RPMs right (don't force it into gear; it'll go in easily when you do it right).

You only have a problem if it pops out of gear on it's own.

Ya I can do it with mine... come to think of it I've been able to do it on all my cars. I don't even use the clutch except to put it in to a gear.

it's normal, shifting gears without using the clutch is called synchro-shifting. Next time try pulling it out of gear and putting into the next without the clutch. Don't force it though if your rpm's are right it should go easily.

A handy thing to know how to do incase your clutch goes out on you. ;)

Actually if a clutch "goes out" as in stops grabbing then this doesn't matter. Not using the clutch pedal won't make things work that don't.

Say your clutch cable breaks or the line pops, then, this could help. Neither of those really qualify for a clutch "going out" though unless you are a 17 year old girl trying to explain what is wrong with your car.

I did that on my Dodge Stratus for a bit when the clutch cable broke. It only really sucked when I had to stop for a light, then I'd have to kill the car and start it in first gear. I hated that car.

Hmmm.. pretty sure I had to do this when the springs on my clutch disk broke. ;)

It's actually called "floating", its a trucker term. We use this method so we don't have to double clutch as our tractor trannies don't have synchros.

Why not double clutch? That's what I did when I drove a tractor trailor.

Thats right. A friend of mines had to drive on the highway without his clutch. He would have to drive it up to 6K and let it drop to about 2.5k and switch gears. If there was a red light on the small streets, his car would shut off and he'd have to do something. I forget.

yeah, if you're a trucker and don't have synchros, it's called floating. But we're talking about an integra, therefore "synchro-shifting" applies.

Because most of us are lazy. Myself included.

He'd have to turn the car off, put it in 1st gear, and start it when the light turns green. Exactley what I had to do. ;)
