I don't know how many people live in Boulder, but I work at IBM off of diagonal highway and I can see the fire from here. Crazy stuff.

JEFFERSON COUNTY - Sherriff's officials used reverse 911 to evacuate a subdivision west of Highway 93, south of Highway 72, as high winds continue to fuel a grass fire in open space.

The fire has grown to an estimated 10 acres. Firefighters from Boulder, Wheat Ridge, and Arvada have joined forces with the Coal Creek and Fairmount Fire Departments to fight the blaze, which was first reported around 6:30 p.m. High winds kicked up around 9 p.m. Tuesday and were fanning the flames.

Jefferson County spokeswoman Jacki Tallman says that the fire is burning on a sparsley populated hillside. She says one structure, described as a cabin, has burned.

They updated their information. It's burned down almost 3,000 acres now.

JEFFERSON COUNTY - Winds gusting to more than 65 miles per hour are fueling a 2,700 acre wildfire northwest of Highway 93 and Highway 72. Late last night the fire was burning on a mere 10 acres of land. At least 100 families have been evacuated from their homes.

The American Red Cross has set up a shelter for evacuees at Ralston Valley High School in Arvada. According to a Red Cross spokesman, about 15 families are currently using the shelter. Most of the homes evacuated are in the Plainview and Blue Mountain Estate subdivisions. So far no homes have been destroyed. The Jefferson County Sheriff Office says two outbuildings did burn down.

Operations in the Jefferson County School District are also being affected by the fire. Coal Creek Elementary School will be closed today. Buses will not operate in the Blue Mountain Estates subdivision.

More than 100 firefighters from a half dozen departments are working to contain the fire, which was first reported at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday evening. High winds kicked up around 9 p.m. and began to fan the flames. Sustained winds of more than 40 miles per hour have blown in the fire area throughout the night.

9News Meteorologist Nick O'Kelly says high winds are expected to blow throughout the day, complicating matters for firefighters.

It's all the way out on Highway 72, just a bit West of highway 93. I drove right by it on Highway 93, around midnight last night, and I could still see it all the way in Longmont. I got some of it on video from highway 93 too.

BTW: Guess where I'm posting this from. ;)
