So, one of our managers where I work has a Vette that's a few years old. He knows I love Honda, Toyota, etc; and he comes up to me in the lunchroom today and asks me "So, when are you going to stop buying that import crap and get an american car?" I tell him "When they acually start making their cars in America, and make a car as well as Honda" He says "But Imports are too expensive" Basically the only argument he could come up with was that Toyota's and Honda's are too expensive, and why don't you just save money and buy a Chevy cuz you'll sell it in a couple years before it breaks. The dude is just basically a moron, but I couldn't come up with any good comebacks. Why do people always have to hate on Imports? What should I tell this guy next time? (He does this on a regular basis)

Tell him why buy and sell cars every few years when you could just own one for 10 years and spend your money on fixing it up. Trust me i own a ford-only cause i need a beater for winter a chevy-soon to be a show truck and a honda-which everybody hates lol owell cause its good on gas and has alot of potential for fixing it up.

Buying a car that last a long time and keeping it for a long time is a good financial move. Buying a car every few years is a poor financial move.

Basically, just tell dude that you know more about money than he does.

Tell him...

"I have 4 words for you, douchenozzle. Power to weight ratio." Then be sure to mention the fact that there are 4 cylinder Hondas, Acuras, etc. putting out the same amount (if not lots more) power than domestics that weigh 1500+ lbs more. :)

Wasn't there a domestic... quad 4... or some shit, that they put in a reletively mid sized to light car? I think they produced like 180 foot pounds out of a 4 cylinder engine, way before Honda even came close to those kinds of numbers?

The guy is obviously a moron, so simply reply with arguments that make no sense. It's much easier to confuse the hell out of an idiot than it is to educate him.

125 hp honda > 300hp Corvette?

125 hp honda > 300hp Corvette?

Well, David, let's do the math... We will say that the Corvette weighs 3500 lbs. That's 0.08571 HP/lb. In order to make a 125 HP car match that ratio, you only need to lighten it to 1458.4 lbs. That's only 1000 lbs of weight reduction you need... pretty simple, if you ask me.

Of course, newer Corvettes have more than 300 HP... a 400 HP one would be about 0.11428 HP/lb, which means the 125 HP car would need to weigh 1093.8 lbs or less. This is easily accomplished with a cutting torch and the expert guidance of chris_venturini.

yeah, but the corvette would still have 4 times the amount of torque...plus where will you put all the women that your newly modified car will attract if you don't have any seats?

It's going to be impossible to "educate" this guy. Obviously he knows nothing about imports and the potential they have. I know many domestic owners that give respect to where respect is due. Then again it doesn't help when he probably sees imports out there all filled with fancy disco lights, exhausts that probably made them lose hp/tq.

One day he'll come across an import while in his vette and possibly get educated.

Ok, I'll share some of my relevant experiences. When I boosted my Civic (dynod at 210whp, the good setup as some call it) I raced my friends stock ls1 from a roll. He instantly caught a car on me from the start, and slowly inched away from me all the way up to the top of 4th. This was a stock car, vs my unreliable, loud, obnoxious Honda Civic. If he would have put i/h/e on that car I would have been left for dead.

Just have fun in your car and stop worrying about everybody else's. Honda Civics aren't the end all pinnacle of car design, they are economy cars that are, and always will be slow (minus a few cars you saw on honda-tech).

Heh.. ok, blah blah blah. 210 hp? That's not good, actually. Seems I ran doors to 135 with an SS on the bottle at only 9 psi on a blown turbo. Apparently your kit wasn't THAT good. My Civic was very reliable until my V-AFC came unwired, loud? Sure.. but so was the SS I ran, not obnoxious though.

210whp is pretty good for a Honda...doubling your hp in any car is pretty good. To get any more power out of it I would have had to either swap an engine in, or build mine. Which would have been incredibly lame considering that would have cost thousands of dollars to beat my friends 100% factory car.

Except in the snow...I have tried.

But that is why you get a piece of shit beater to rough up in the snow. I think once my turbo honda gets out of my system I am going to invest in something with a lot more power. I do know that my 180ish whp turbo d does alright for now ;) .
