FORT SUMNER, N.M. - A New Mexico homeowner's attempt to burn a mouse had catastrophic consequences last week.
The mouse had taken up residence in 81-year-old Luciano Mares' Fort Sumner home. Mares captured the little creature and wanted to get rid of it, so
He dropped it on a pile of leaves that he was burning in his backyard. The doomed mouse didn't take his fate lightly.
In fact, moments after being dropped in the leaves, he shot out, fur ablaze, and ran back into Mares' home.
Soon, the entire house, part of the yard and a truck in the driveway were in flames.
Firefighters were called, but dry conditions drove the blaze across the property so fast that it was completely destroyed before fire teams could get a handle on it.
No word on the ultimate outcome of the mouse, but he hasn't been seen since the fire
