I have only been to Car Toys a few times paid like $80 more for a deck there that I would have paid at Soundtrack
Quality there service just suckz and there prices are shitty as well
Have had two alarms done there and they at least were descent as the DEI alarms have never given me any other problems.

HAHA We had what we called the Car Toys special at our shop. It was priced at $250 to start. It was to fix everything they did wrong with their installs... Electrical tape holding a ground cable for an amp instead of a eye connector and a screw/bolt, speakers wired out of phase, wrong size fuse so the amp would blow and need replacing. We also had other specials for other shops... Drive In special was $450! Gives you an idea!!

Hmm, I know I wouldn't let either of them touch my car. Car toys did an alarm install for me once and it was a fucking hack job. I'll stick to doing it myself.

My friend has worked in Quality, Soundtrack, Harms sound Lab (local), Circuit City and Car Toys he did installation and managed the depts. I asked him the same question and he told me one place is as good as another just depends on who you have doing the work. You could have a really good shop and a really bad installer working on your car etc. So I just take my stuff to him cause he does it on the side now cheap and the best work I've seen.

so true... when i had the alarm on the S2K installed i asked to meet the installer ... hell i even sat and watched him... very nice guy and willing to help... asked about where i wanted the antenna, LED, brain, etc... asked how i wanted to remote setup for the windows option, how sensitive i wanted the alarm, etc...

most installer out there are just there to make a living, they don't care less who the person is they are installing the car in.

Dash works in that case. You will not be dissapointed. They do incredible custom work.

As far as custom goes and the big chains I have had the best luck with Car toys. But once again the guy doing the work was a good guy. I would ask to meet him ahead of time.

I had Car Toys (Littleton) install an amp and subs for me on my last car, and when I left my AC didnt work, and my dash lights were out.

I had Quality Auto Sound do Satelite radio for me, only to discover they didnt mount the receiver to anything, and they broke a snap in my door some how.

Now I just go to this guy I know personally who does on-the-spot installs.

I saw that vette at Cream de la chrome car show! It did look awesome! When I saw it was from dashworks I was surprised! Anyways I have worked in this field for 12 years at Bestbuy, Sound Track, Quality Auto Sound, and CarToys. Heres my breakdown of what each store.

Bestbuy...low end product cheap

Soundtrack....Nice product but lost most of the good installers to CarToys

Quality Auto Sound....Ever since Audio Express bought it out...they suck....good products....bad installers since they don't pay

CarToys....For the most part...has the top installers in the industry but rape you on price. Don't shop at Park Meadows unless you are rich. Feel free to PM me what you are looking to get done and I can recommend the best installer for the situation.

Instead of working for these places, I have been doing it on the side now. I have partnered with a company in Denver called Mid West Customs. I just got done doing a full system that would have costed about $3500 at CarToys for $2000. I am currently working with 3 1st class MECP installers and one of them can do crazy custom work if desired. If your interested in doing a system, I will price it out for you.

If anyone is interested.....email me at MichaelB145@aol.com

If your looking for anything Infinity or JBL I can get it at almost 1/2 of retail price. For example....Inf Kappa 6" separates retail at $325 and I can sell them for $175.

Haven't been to quality but Car Toys was definately overpriced and the work was subpar when they build my sub box. I surely didn't think it was worth what I payed. But since Rob moved to cali I'll have to look for somebody else just as good to make me a custom box for new subs :D

i hate car toys so much, i just want to shoot everyone in there in the face. they are so pushy and they don't know balls about anything there. i've never been to quality but i heard they were expensive.

BlueFang08
04-04-2006, 07:47 PM
I think they both suck, cartoys sucks a little less.

MichaelB145
04-04-2006, 08:57 PM
If you don't want pushy salesman I'm sure Circuit City or Best Buy would be more your style! They get paid hourly and try not to talk to customers!

Now I would agree with you that the whole industry has no idea what the f$ck they are doing! It's sad that Quality Auto Sound used to have a bunch of salesman that knew what they are doing 7 years ago, but when CarToys came in most of them moved on. And now margins are so slim, they can't pay salesmen what they are worth. So now you have a bunch of kids that have no idea how to properly set up a system.

If you are willing to drive to a further store to get good help.....PM me and I will recommend the right person for what your looking for.

I had Car Toyz install my alarm in my Del Sol after it got broke into and they did a shitty hack job. Also the extra options they make you pay for like flashing lights ect that I had purchased they didn't even bother to hookup. I had to bring it to my friend to fix after a few months when the brains and wires were hanging infront of the gas/brakes. Fuck Car Toyz

What kind of experiences do you have? Where did you work before starting your own shop?

Myself (General Business Manager) - 10 years in the biz. Worked for everyone except SoundsWhack. MECP Master Certified. I have extensive experience in commercial vehicles and semi's. Of course, I worked on just about every affordable car out there. Have a few exotics here and there. Have managed a 5-star restuarant (family rest) and built 2 personal show winners/drag (91 Teg LS/Vtec Turbo/Nitrous, 01 Jetta every bolt on w/ nitrous).

Partner (Erik, Install Manager HCA) - 14 years in the biz, First Class certified, but did not go for Masters because last company (CarToys) wasnt going to pay anymore. It so happens I got grandfathered in. Hes built just about anything on wheels.. most of the work on our website is his own personal. He has EXTENSIVE experience with Ferrari 360/550s and Lamborghini Diablo/Murcielago's. Hes helped managed another shop formerly in CA (Custom Exotica) that WAS the baddest car audio ever built (only because the man financing things was a multi-millionaire.)

We have worked for those losers out there. They all lack in the same areas: the Corporate Dollar. Things must be done the "corporate" way. They are right... they will be done the "corporate" way.. with our corporation!

This has been a long time in the works. We will only carry the best, and offer ONLY the best installation possible. Our shop is clean and sleek, providing not just a comfy work area for your car, but for you as well.

We personally financed this venture. There is no silent partners, no investors, no morons. Bottom line: we dont screw around. We are straight up, honest, friendly and most of all, knowledgable.

Come take a look and talk to us, you will see we are unmatched in the car audio biz.

(Oh btw, my name is Rich. I worked on TEGGY cars. Both of us used to work at CarToys. When things got stupid, we made our own shop. Overall, WE ARE NOT IN COMPETITION WITH ANY CAR AUDIO SHOP OUT THERE. We have something they dont... Pride.)

Do I know either of you? This is Mike B, I was the Store Manager of the 6th and Broadway location. I also Managed Park Meadows and Aurora. Before that I managed Quality Auto Sound at SW Plaza, Littleton, Lakewood, and Westminster. Before that I helped open the first Ultimate Soundtrack at Colorado Blvd in 1994 and was in Boulder in 1995. Have I worked with either of you guys?

Pushy, and they are bitches about Refunds when they pressure women into buying shit they don't need. Luckily we got SOMETHING we could use out of them. Not to mention their prices are RIDICULOUS. I seriosly hate that place, the one in lakewood.(Carr and Colfax) Im not sure if it was me or not, but the damn manager seemed retarded at best. Glad it wasn't my money spent on this shit or....else.

B - Stop by anytime. I have missed your car... I hear its black now.

Luckily, I jumped out all those companies before the boat sank. Audio Express bought out Quality 2 months after I left, and ever since we jumped out of 'Toys, they havent been the team they were used to (as heard froom the install manager, an installer, and an assistant manager).

Thats mighty sad... managers fuck good people. So in turn, they get fucked. :drink:
