I was reading about everybodys crappy luck with ass clown theives and thought I'd get some help in finding out who stole and stripped my car. It was already found but they took my turbo (Greddy TD0-4) Intercooler, APEX-i VAFC, and a bunch of Del Sol stuff (roof, seats...). If anybody hears anything send a message my way because I would love to find out who did this and make them beg for death. (Stolen on Highlands Ranch Parkway and Broadway about 2 weeks ago.)
Thanks

Fucking dipshit thieves. My car was stolen about 3 weeks ago too. Is your insurance gonna cover anything? I'll let you know if I see any of those parts for sale.

I'm still waiting to hear what I'm going to get from insurance. I had reciepts for EVERYTHING ever done to the car but never bought any "extra" insurance that you can apparently get if you modify a car. I'm hoping to get enough to buy a car of comprable "badassness." At least as bad ass as a Honda can be...'burnout:

I wouldnt get a Honda anymore, at least not a model that everyone is looking for (Si's, Integras). It seems that this will never stop and I dont know about you, but one time was enough for me.
Are you all leaving these things in the open? Do you garage them at night? They your daily driver? :ring:

We baited my car back when Bedlam's was stolen. It still looks the same. Tell me where to park it, and I'll let you all know what I'm wearing so I don't get shot while getting out of it by the HAI sniper team.

Bait and beat?! Yes please! Tell me when and where and i'll make sure to not show up to work. I just saw the FOX 31 story and it was nice but pretty weak. I was hoping to see some "law enforcment bashing" since nothing seems to be happening. Oh well...

Law enforcement BASHING wouldn't be a good thing. Them going into more detail asking the police why the hell there's nothing really being done would be the thing to do.

Even though I'm not in the insurance biz anymore......
IT IS SUPER IMPORTANT to talk to your insurance agent about adding "customized vehicle coverage" to your policy if you want to see any money for your stolen performance parts. If your company doesn't offer it, you need to switch and talk to an independent agency, NOT the biggies (like State Farm, Farmers, Allstate, etc) - ask Stu or me for some referrals.

Don't some companies automatically cover up to an extra $1000 in modifications?
MrsGhandi

Possibly, but you have to make sure to ask the question. Also, it doesn't hurt to bring in your policy and have the agent find where it states that.

If you guys want to do a bait and beat, I would totally love to be in on it! I'd love to see the look on their faces! Then I got to thinking about it, if someone is on here "car-shopping" they would already know the plan and wouldn't bother even trying to rip off a car if they know the specifics.... Just a thought... We would have to keep it on the dl and do it ninja-style.. LOL

So about the bait and beat, how lawful would this be -
We bait a car and someone tries to break in. A small group of people draws weapons on the person and tells them to freeze. Two guys grab some duck tape and hog tie them. Then call and wait for the police to show up.
Before we do the bait, we call a news crew to cover it (Fox31, whatever). I'm sure this would only have to be done once or twice. It would give the news crew some intense footage which would defintely get primetime. Should defintely get the attention of some officials.
Would pulling a weapon but not injuring the thief violate any laws?

Unfortunately, we live in the land of laws that favor the criminals over the victims... You basically cannot use force to defend property unless it is your home (ie the "make my day" law), so it has to be for self-defensive purposes. In most cases, it is considered felony menacing to threaten someone with serious bodily injury or death, unless they are already showing that they are similar threat. Common sense would tell us that someone who is committing a felony (ie stealing a car) is a threat, but the law isn't so logical. Confronting a thief by pointing a gun at them, or just having it in your hands, is likely to be illegal. What I'm not sure about is if you have a gun in a holster (where "open carry" is legal).
I would have the weapon lawfully concealed (ie so it's not "menacing" anyone), as close to me as possible, either by CCW permit or properly stored in a vehicle... there is a law that covers concealing it in your vehicle without having a CCW permit, but I'd have to look more closely at that. I'd just plan on worst case scenario, which is unloaded, in a case, and in the trunk. What you have to consider is the amount of time it'll take to have it ready. For example, let's say we have an AR-15 stored in it's case with the bolt locked open... I can have it out of the case, loaded, safety off, laser on, and aimed with the iron sights in under 10 seconds. I timed it 5 or so times... most were 7-8 seconds, the slowest was 10. With practice, I'm sure that could get lower, and using just the laser to aim would be faster as well. So, if you add the time it takes to open the trunk of a car, it could be aimed and ready to fire in right around 10-15 seconds. Obviously, that's 10-15 seconds longer than we'd like, but it's still decent considering that's starting with it unloaded, in a case, and in a car's trunk... that's our worst case scenario for legally storing the weapon. We could have a handgun ready to go even faster, especially if someone has a CCW.
I really wouldn't expect to have to fire, or even pull the gun (chances are they'll run when confronted), but I intend to be prepared to defend ourselves, while taking into consideration any other people that may be in the area. Most of the details of the bait operation need to be private though... there's no reason to undermine our efforts by giving out the details in public.

when taking any firearms course/ccw class the first thing they warn you about is avoiding confrontations. even if it only takes someone trained to pull a weapon out in 5-10 seconds, a situation like that can turn fucking ugly or even deadly in another few seconds.
most of you already know by know that i have my CCW permit, and i personally would not put myself in that situation. You never know what can happen in those tense situations, you might think they are pulling a weapon, but your buddies that are with you can clearly see it was a screwdriver. Everyone will be interviewed at the scene, now you have your friends statements matching the person you just shot at/killed. Not a good position to be in, if you ask me.
i think the best idea is to work with the LE and bail a car that has GPS. watch/film them stealing it, track it down, follow up with the LE and inform them were the car is at. film the LE arresting the criminals at the location, and because we have everything on tape, we are a witness and we are required to show up in court. follow up in court and see what kind of sentence they receive. if they get a slap on the wrist, we document it, and our next step is to contact the local government and put pressure on them to make auto theft a higher priority.
we can also call the news stations again and show them our evidence on film and have them do a news story on why CO has one of the highest auto insurance rates in the country. then the public knows about the auto theft problem and that the local government is not really doing much.
Here is a response that weston got from a local Denver PD officer.

Simon, I agree and that's how I see this going too. That's far more valuable to us. However, I don't think we should dilvuge too many details of our plans here. My response was just to answer myshtern's question, which assumed that we'd be in a situation where we'd have to confront the guy. You never know what's going to happen, so I think it would be wise to prepare for problem scenarios, rather than risk being unpleasantly surprised.

Interesting read and very true. When my sisters car got jacked the cops didn't do shit. The fuckn theives went on e-470 twice and skipped the toll, they sent me the bill with the picture of the license plate (got me pretty pissed knowing that the fuckn thieves were in the car when this was taken), I called the investigator to see if this can help, and she just said no it won't and that was it, no follow up, no nothing sounded like she can give a rats ass bout the car theft.
I guess thats how it is and thats why so many freakn honda are getting stolen cause these fuckn thieves know they can get away with it. ANother reason why I am done with Hondas, onto the mini vans for me.
By the way for the person who posted this, i hope your car gets recovered, and not stripped, its a pretty sucky feeling to see your car all jacked up.

Well, the problem is that when people move on to other, less-stolen, cars, the theft demand will follow. It's the demand that gets them stolen as much as they are, not the fact that they are easy to steal.

This is why I love the msp not a high demand for the protege. At least that I know of. Hopefully it stays that way.
