It is good for America. Industrial production is great for poor countries. While everyone else was picking their countries up after WWII, we got rich by building everything and selling it to everyone. Now it's more efficient for poorer countries to make stuff. We're not poor anymore, so it's time for us to move onto a post-industrial era. It's never been done before, hope it works out okay.

Oh, Stu... You hear such silly things in school. It's funny, but also sad, when kids get out of college and think that they know it all and what's good for America or a company, only to make total jackasses of themselves in the real world.
For starters, "industrial production" is definately not the only thing being outsourced overseas these days, not even close... people are losing high paying technical jobs to people in India who will work for pocket change. Yeah, it's great "cost savings" for that company (although product quality becomes questionable, and ethics and loyalty go out the window), but what good is that when there's no longer a market for their products because every other company is doing the same and hardly anyone has a job to pay for things anymore? You end up with the economy that we are seeing now... where everything just keeps costing more and more, but people's paychecks hardly ever get bigger, and more people keep losing their jobs. It's like money is just disappearing... It's going overseas. This country's greed and lack of ethics or loyalty will ultimately be it's undoing... that is, if Bush doesn't get us into a nuclear war with Iran first.
That's the problem with classroom theory and real world experience... There's a pretty big gap between the two. Communism was once considered a brilliant idea, in theory, but we all know what happened when countries tried to do it.

since it's totally off-topic, i'll keep it short.
outsourcing is good in the short run, cause yes, it helps cut costs, report profit and (somehow and indirectly) make GNP grow (though this particular issue really bothers me, how can we calculate something into National/Domestic product if it was produced outside of our national boundaries??)
apparently, the system only keeps hanging on a good faith in copyright laws and technology "know-how" which still guarantees that the product made abroad belongs to US. This will not be forever. While outsourcing could provide for a good boost for our economy, as with all powerful drugs, it cannot be that effective all the time, and in fact, will become harmful in a while. so in my opinion America needs to start withdrawal from "outsourcing injections". safer this way.

Weston, since you've never been to school, I don't blame you for not really knowing that 99.9% of all college professors are some of the MOST liberal people you'll ever run into. In all my years of college, I've not ONCE, had a teacher EVER say anything positive about W. Bush. You can't argue with the fact that we can't be on top forever though. China has a population that is 4 times the size of ours (1/5 the population of the whole world), and India has a billion people as well. It should be no surprise that in a largly free market (that I support, job protection is no better than outsourcing, talk about raising domestic prices for lower quality product) more and more jobs are going to be held in other parts of the world. Whether you like it or not, these two countries are the next up and coming powers in the world, and there is nothing you can do about it. These companies are going to start producing the same things that we are regardless, so how in the world could you possibly complain about American companies still owning the product? It's either, we own the company and the workers, or they own themselves. Either way, people are going to be out of jobs.

It's either, we own the company and the workers, or they own themselves. Either way, people are going to be out of jobs.
Actually, I have been to college, which is part of my motivation to say that people should think for themselves rather than just blindly believing whatever some idiot teacher tries to tell them. Get some real world experience and I will listen to what you have to say, but hearsay from some random teacher is pretty worthless in my eyes, especially when my own real world experience contradicts it. Go get a real job and see how the business world really works... watch good honest hard-working people lose their jobs and struggle to put so much as a roof over their family's heads (or fail and end up in the street), all so that someone else can profit just a little more, then try to tell yourself "this is good for America" or "this is something God would be proud of". Good people are losing everything and suffering because of the greed and carelessness of others and it's pretty fucking disgusting. There are some damn good teachers out there, but more often than not, if a teacher knew what he was talking about, he'd be out doing it and making a hell of a lot more money than he is by teaching it.
And for the record, I quit school because I didn't see any reason to pay some moron to try to fill my head with his horsecrap opinions or make a pathetic attempt to teach me the subject matter that I already knew better than him. When the whole class is coming to you, rather than the teacher, for help and answers to various technical questions, it tells you that you might just be wasting your time and money there. Then I see my friends from high school coming out of college and it's only obvious that they had just as much of a worthless experience as I did, except that they don't realize it yet (they have the typical college know-it-all mentality) and they now have a diploma and an elitist mentality to go with it. It's funny when they try to tell me that I'm dumb for not finishing school, considering how they're living with their parents, broke, and have a mountain of student loan debt. It gets even better when they finally land a real job and it's not the glorious position that the college fairy promised them... they find out that they have to work every bit as hard as everyone else, prove themselves just as much, and start on the bottom. Well, shit... I'm a good 4-5 years ahead of them then, and I don't have an elitist mentality holding me back.
Now if they are actually willing to open their eyes to the real world, rather than thinking that they are better than everyone else and entitled to everything simply because they have a diploma, then they might get somewhere. A lot of people seem to think that a diploma will give them a free ride, open doors for them, etc. That's the worst attitude they could possibly have, because it's nowhere even close to being the truth. All that a diploma says is that you have some basic knowledge of the subject (and other general subjects) and an ability to learn.

David
12-08-2005, 05:04 PM
Well, its tomorrow, I take it we wont do it today?
Weston, everytime we talk about the economy, you always talk about living in the "real" world, as if there were any other place to live. Then you go right into defending your choice to just get a job instead of go to school, when no one even asked. Then you villanize the world just because things are changing.
Here's the bottom line:
India and China are sleeping giants with billions of people. These people aren't hanging out in rice patties anymore, and are becoming educated. When billions of educated people are entering the work force, supply goes up, demand goes down, real wages drop. You can't blame how the free market works on America, or greed. That's just the way it is, you have to deal with it. It's simply not a product of greed and selffishness. I doesn't matter how good a person is. We all love Tobi, but if he doubled all his prices, he'd lose so much of his business that he'd starve. Then you'd come on here and say how we are responsible for killing Tobi because we're too greedy to pay twice the market price for work, even if it is substantially better.
Please cut the bullshit about listening to teachers, you only have to be a fucking moron to realize that this is how things are, and the direction things are headed as a result. It's not greed, it's inevitable.
P.S. There is a lot of outsourcing to the mid west within the States, no one is complaining about that now are they?
Weston-work
12-08-2005, 05:25 PM
blah blah blah. Get yourself a real job and maybe you'll understand what I'm talking about... that's this "real world" that I'm talking about. Perhaps I should have said "real business world" instead. Delivering pizza and listening to the hot air that comes out of some teacher's head doesn't exactly make you qualified to be lecturing anyone on the way the world is going. I've heard more than enough bullshit from college students to know that they are generally pretty clueless and idealistic until they get career experience of their own. I'll admit it... I was too. I like you Stu, but don't try to tell me that you know more about living in the real world when you haven't even started a career yet. In a few years, I'll take your opinions a lot more seriously, but I promise you that you wont have the same opinions.
Oh, and people are complaining about outsourcing within the US. But it's a lesser evil.
My problem is that you keep bringing up some phantom professor that you think I'm getting my ideas from. They don't really talk about stuff like this in any of my classes. All the best teachers I've ever had kept their opinions to themselves.
I'm not saying I know more about anything than you, what's frustrating me is that you are doing exactly that. I don't need to have a career to watch the trends of everyone else in the world. Don't act like I haven't had any other jobs besides delivering pizza, or that the huge corporation of Papa John's is invulenerable to the same issues that other businesses face. My parents have gone through corporate lay offs and any other trend changes that come along with owning your own business.
At least quit acting like just because I've been going to school for the last 4 years, that I've been looked in a bomb shelter the whole time.
Oh yeah, about outsourcing within the US. I don't see how it can be a lesser evil, either way, someone is losing their job, or more likely, not being hired at all, because someone else will do it for cheaper. It doesn't matter who it is.

What I'm saying is that watching the trends or hearing about them is a lot different than being a part of them, and it alters your view on it substantially. See what it does to people who you know and care about when they work long and hard, only to get screwed out of everything, just so some millionaire has more money to waste. Just because everyone is doing it doesn't mean that it's right or good in any way. It disgusts me in the human race, and I think it's unfortunate that so many people cannot see right and wrong for themselves. Like I said before, do you think God would be proud to see people doing this to others? Fuck no!
As for outsourcing within the US, it's a lot different than outsourcing overseas... the jobs stay within the country, often in the same local area... it just goes to someone willing to take less money. In many cases, when a job is "outsourced", those employees don't actually lose their jobs... they just become employees of the company that was awarded the contract, and they then typically get paid less. The positive side is that it can keep employees competitive and provide a better value to the employer; the negative side is that when every company does it, the skilled workers get ripped off. Some companies also use it for political or tax reasons. Either way, money isn't disappearing from the American economy because of it.
There are also a lot of really shady things that corporate America is doing that you wont find out about in the classroom or in the media (and the media is extremely biased are rarely accurate, by the way). I could start a whole 'nother rant about that crap, but NDA's prevent me from doing so.

did you think about how japanese workers feel when Honda builds a plant in Ohio? or think about all US law, accounting and investment corporations that are hired by foreign people and companies to do some job. that's just to throw some fresh thoughts into your discussion ;) there is outsourcing that goes both ways. only Unions seem to shout louder than people in other countries, and suddenly we see outsourcing as a problem. but actually it's just a two-way street.

See what it does to people who you know and care about when they work long and hard, only to get screwed out of everything, just so some millionaire has more money to waste.
Maybe if you thought more about how to be a millionaire yourself and less about what other people are doing, you wouldn't be so pessimistic.

Smell my wang.
God? What does God have to do with anything? Millionaires wasting money? Fucking please. You wouldn't even have a job if it wasn't for people like that. Were you not listening when I said that my own parents have been through large corporate layoffs?
I'm not even sure what you are arguing about anymore.
Stu: The world is changing and there is nothing you can do about it. The market is shifting from local to international. The potential employee pool is larger than it once was.
Weston: Get a real job. Because you're in school, you're too stupid to realize that people's jobs are being outsourced. They are honest, so we should spend more money than they are worth to keep them around.
Stu: ?
*Sorry Chris, I was making a joke and Weston couldn't resist a chance to whine about something no one was talking about.
P.S. If you get taken over by a different company, and get to keep your job, that's NOT outsourcing. I'm not sure what you are talking about there.

Now you sound like a little kid trying to shift blame. I was the one who made the joke and then you tried to tell me that American jobs being sent overseas is "good for America". And don't try to tell me that that was a "joke", because I've heard similar ignorant, myshtern-like, arguments from you before. You're just cranky because I don't agree with your silly ideas and I didn't let you get away with stating them as if they were fact. Then you start your argument with saying things like I've never been to school, so I correct you and explain my position, and you claim that we weren't even talking about that. Perhaps you should read your own posts, because you are the one that brought up these subjects that you claim that "no one was talking about". You didn't seem to be sure what we were arguing about to begin with; your own arguments directly conflict with each other...
No true fan of America would support outsourcing. Especially at a Mexican food restaurant!
George W Bush says it's "good" for America... He's a pretty smart guy who genuinely cares about people.

Casa Bonita is shitty mexican food. It's like exotic mexican, the only form of exotic mexican I like is in the form of the slang biscocho. El Azteca has better food, and there is some mexican joint off of Licoln & I25 that is somewhat high class and has some killer mexican dishes that actually tastes somewhat homemade. But I'd still probably go check it out since it's like been years since I been there :)
As for the whole college idealist that Weston is blabling about, it's exactly that in my opinion. It's too easy to just be kept in an environment (college) and conjure up all these ideals, morals, and grandjure and then just try to spread it amongst people (even if you dont realize it). I personally dont listen to anybody still in college since they dont have a fucken clue *IMO. You need experience to back up those fancy words. The only purpose college served me was the paper saying I earned this bla bla. It didn't get me my job, and I even have a IT degree! The only thing that matters in the real world is your ability to actually go and get what you want. College is just way to get you in debt and in some circumstances you actually get enough to start you off. But it's nothing that you couldn't of gotten from a book @ borders. (unless you wanted to be a violinist or something that requires an insructor and apprenticeship) 20K+ tuition, or a book for $54.95 that can get you even more knowledge that what's generally provided? Hmm... The only thing really worth college is just the personal experience, fucking random girls and getting trashed and making buddies for the long run. But as far as the actual 'learning' process I forgot everything about that. Of course this is just my own opinion as I reflect back on the college experience and my career that I have. In hindsigh I think college gave me the environment in terms of just time to really tinker with my own offtopic subjects and specialize in that. So in a way if I didn't go to college I probably would of been hard pressed for time in learning to really get out int he field and run with it. So I think back on college as just being a way to pass time to study what I wanted to study until I was ready with enough experience to try working in the IT industry. But I can say that even back then I realize that I did have my own ideals and was idealistic and willing to blah in all kinds of crap simply because I sat on my ass and had time to just conjure up this shit thinking I had a firm grasp of it all. Your naieve until you've really tried, and now that I have I just look back at myself in college and laugh :)

Since this is now a trully off-topic thread hahaha!
American jobs can be seen as a form of GP. Since we are a service centric country and have as of up till recently been outsourcing a lot of services to other countries, when jobs get outsourced we lose that GP. That's something that isn't good for the country if we dont have a way to counter balance it with something else. Plus Bush's strict God involving policy of stuff like Stem cell research, etc.. worries me because there are other nations that will become the forefront in research and technology and they will reap the benefits of that position; not us. Where gonna start to have to fight for the #1 position, but our 'moral' limits will hurt us, and also the loss outsourcing services. Even if we are insourcing services such as building cars etc.. look at it this way, were starting to seem like a 3rd world country. If it spiraled out of hand you could have America be the cheap labor country to off source to... you wanna make a $3.12 an hour? Just an opinion to ponder if your into that whole economically political crap.

Weston, I only said that you didn't go to college to point out that nearly every professor at a college wouldn't say the things that I'm saying, especially political science ones; they are the most extreme left I've ever come in contact with. I guess everyone is capable of their own thoughts but me, because I'm in school. It's funny, I don't even hardly go to class (I only have two, neither of which have anything to do with this topic), I will graduate with $0 in school debt, and I've had a job since I was 15. Go figure.
EDIT: Oh yeah, we already are behind the game as far as stem cell research goes. Bush's unwillingness to provide support for that bothers me, but he won't be in office forever. I like how Justin brought up that our 'moral' standard will hold us back. I agree, and think it's ironic, since I think that we are probably one of the most immoral countries around. (Well, most immoral of any countries that actually have any politcal significance.)

Beter yet make a sign and stand on some corner downtown...........Speer Blvd has alot of positions to stand. Then on your sign write the following:

you better eat BEFORE going to Casa Bonita :D Just save some room for sopapillas.

well. we should have a met at a place that ONLY evolves alcohol, that way the only sickness would be self inflicted. or inflicted by peer pressure!

casa bonita is cool especially when you're a kid, you don't really go there for the food... you go for the atmosphere. It's actually a really unique place, they just need to improve their menu.

Not directly... he was aiming for your mouth, but I guess some could have splashed over, seeing as how close you were to it.
