Last night I noticed my car was making a really loud ticking noise and was RPM dependant. As the RPM's went up the ticking noise got louder. At first I thought my exhaust was loose. I had a friend listen to it for about 5 seconds and he said it sounded like a broken rocker arm or bent push rod.
I took off the drivers side valve cover and sure enough one of my rocker arms was shredded. There is a fairly large size metal piece missing too. :(
Today I am going to pull the passenger side valve cover to see what that side has in store for me.
I also stripped one of my bolts to my exhuast plates...

Just when the weather gets nice too...

damn man i'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully it didn't take out too much when it went. When my dad built his engine the first time he forgot to lash the valve clearances after the break in period. Took out almost all of the lobes on the cam because of it.

DO you have filter screens welded into the head to prevent valve bits from entering the engine? If not I bet you will soon.

That fucking sucks. If you can't find the missing piece, gonna pull the motor?

Hell yeah, I bummed. At least the problem was found and it wasnt nothing internal (cam, rods, etc) *knocks on wood hoping that it is just a rocker arm*

actually it was way too cold to work in the garage yesterday so I didnt do anything car related. Going to go pick up some extra rocker arms today and will probably replace the one on Tuesday and fire her up to see if I need to pull the passenger valve cover...
yeah, I'll keep everyone post on my FireChicken... :)
