I was driving home last night and had a vovlo do this fly by. So I caught up and notice it was a S80 AWD. The thing that caught me off gaurd was this little "R" emblem on the trunk lid's right hand side. Is this a specail model with a larger engine or something?

It's probably an S60R. It has more boost and makes 300 hp instead of 218 or 240. And a 3 way adjustable suspension too.

Thanks just did a search on Car and Driver and found the S60R. Was wondering if I could take it or not. C&D said a 1/4 in 14.8... Be a good race.

Those numbers were done in 100 degree heat and its pretty apparent the engine pulled a lot of timing. They're more likely to run a 14.0 as this test shows. http://www.caranddriver.com/article.asp?section_id=3&article_id=6848&page_number=4
So you'd probably lose by a car or two.

Isnt there an older S80 model that was twin turbo'd?

Oh well... Either way sharp car but think I could spend $40k somewhere else.

All S80's are twin turbo'd I6's that are mounted transversely. No R model though.

Thought so. One of my neighbor's cousins has one and wanted to race my STI.

New ones are weaksauce. The older ones were 268hp.

Wow, the new one's are weaksause. A co-worker of mine has an S80 T6. It's not bad, but even he wonders what the hell he was thinking when he bought it. He's trading it in on a new 530i after the first of the year.
As for the S60R, I love em. Some one on this board has one and they paid no where near sticker for it. I'd look for the post, but I'm too lazy

I like the V50, myself. It'd look really badass after it's dropped a couple inches.

Sorry for the late reply, but I don't get on here much anymore.
If it was a sedan you saw, it was an S60R. If it was a wagon, it was a V70R. They both have 300HP and 295 Lb-Ft of Torque from a 2.5L 5-cylinder with ~14 psi boost.
Up at this altitude, in cold weather, it would be tough for a stock Z to keep up... but stranger things have happened! I've driven my Dad's Z roadster at sea level and it's certainly no slouch.
