View Full Version : What wires to connect?
Just bought a Auto Meter a/f gauge. I have a Si can someone tell me what wire i connect the purple and red wire to?

Look on your wiring harness. The purble goes to the biggest white wire on the harness. This is teh O2 Sensor witre. Next the red wire will connect to the black wire with a yellow stripe. This is of course your + power lead from the ecu. Make sure you use that power source because i've seen some strange things happen with these gauges when you use a different source. Hope that helps.
Is the black wire with the yellow stripe on the same harness with the big white O2 wire? Will black taping things work or do i have to solder things together?

I'm not sure if it is on the same harness as the o2 wire. I'm kind of thinking it isn't....... Just tapping the wires will work fine though. Just make sure you have a good connection.

Hey, I just installed an Autometer A/F Gauge on my car.
Does your sometime go off completely? Then when u hit the gas it comes back on?
Mine does that...I know I have good connections and I monitor what the computer is reading for 02 voltage but the guage doesnt reflect it?

mecham,
when you let off the gas the gauge will probably go out. deceleration should be completely lean(no fuel at all) there for the gauge would read "0". for instance my DVOM will show 0000 volts during deceleration.

Shane is right, mine does that too. FWIW, A/F meters at 1 volt suck. 5 volt A/F meters are where it's at, but they are also pricey, and for that price, maybe an EGT would be better. I almost got an EGT gauge and may still eventually. Also, my A/F gauge is connected to a power lead off of the fuse box... don't ask me why, but that's just the way Paragon wired it. It works fine from what I can tell. The black wire just connect to a good solid ground.

You can convert an autometer to read only 0-.5 volts. Only takes a couple hours and requires a couple resistors. I'll find the tutorial I had on it.
Anyone have pics of the wire needed to be spliced into?

Shows comparisons between the (in)famous Autometer A/F guage VERSUS a true wideband O2 unit
Keep in mind that this is only at IDLE.. the difference is even more apparent while driving

i don't have mine hooked up to the power source from the ecu, so far the reading's are pretty good. then again, cars are weird like that.

A couple of hours to solder in some resistors....nah...

They're just for the *bling* factor. :C
Actually they just let you know if you go lean and even by then it might be too late but they aren't very accurate and you shouldn't tune with just an A/F gauge.
