Stop emailing/pming me asking what I have under the hood. :) I'll confess, damnit!

Speed Density L98- Stock 245HP/345 Ft lbs
Only availible with Th700 automatic transmission

Free Shit:
-------------
Gutted Airbox
Raised tranny line pressure
Throttle body coolant bypass
Homemade Adjustable Fuel Pressure regulator
Ported upper intake, port matched lower (soon to be ported a fuck of a lot more with a siamesed lower intake)
Ported throttle body
Manual fan control

Shit that costs money:
------------------------------
MSD6 + coil + wires
Flowmaster catback, 4thgen Camaro tailpipes (smap meet purchase)
SLP intake runners
Lakewood lower control arms
Torsen torque sensing differential
3.73 gears
Modine heavy duty radiator
Compucar nitrous system
Compucar bottle heater
Kumho 712 fronts/daily driver rears
BFG Comp TA drag radials

And thats how you run 12's at altitude for 1800 bucks worth of mods into a stock block, heads and cam thirdgen that still passes emissions.

I bought this car as my daily driver, then financial issues forced me to sell my track car project. Instead of buying another one, I decided to build the Formula to where I wanted it for a good daily driver, then after that, look towards getting another pure track car.

This will be the last year for this motor. Next fall, I'm going to give it a mild rebuild with vortec heads and forged pistons/good rings, and hopefully around 285 rwhp up here, and a strong enough bottom end for a 200 shot when I want to play.

My only question is how you pulled a 15.1 out of that thing stock? Those cars are far from fast in stock form. I remember racing a couple guys with the 350's in theirs when my car was stock and I still won.....

yeah I have honestly never seen one of those firebirds or camaros's from the late 80's to early 90's run faster than a 16.xx in 5 speed trim, let alone in an automatic.

Must have had my van pushing him down the track to go that fast!!

Actually an L98 is pretty quick if it's in good condition. I think they were only available from 90-92, so they're not as common as the older 200-215hp models.

A friend of Paul and I has one that runs 14.9 with just gears an air filter and an exhaust.

Thats because any 5 speed that you saw was a 305. They never made 350/5 speeds.

There is a lot of misconceptions about thirdgens, mainly because they have more engine options that most MAKES let alone models.

For any given year from 1987-1992, you can get 4 DIFFERENT V8 options.

305 TBI (throttle body injection) 170 hp, most common
305 TPI (with same cm as TBI) 190 hp, also common
305 TPI (with L98 cam) 230 HP RARE AS FUCK
350 TPI 245 HP and assloads of torque. Fairly rare.

So everybody races the top two, and go away thinking they whooped up on a 350 car. Hell, a lot of owners are clueless.

It also helps that the 90-92 350 cars are .5 seconds or more faster than the ealier models. This is due to better exhaust, lower gearing, less restrictive intake, and better fuel management.

However, Accounting for ALL of the 1990-1992 350 cars of both models (camaro/firebird), you still come up with less than 15,000 total.

In reality, the LT1 cars are barely faster than the 90-92 rs they replaced. They have 30 more HP, but less torque and more weight.

LT1 guys on the street could never figure out why I was able to holeshot them, and hold them off through the 1/8 when I was stock. Also, my times are right in there with what a normal LT1 runs at bandimere. That wasn't exactly stock, I did have all the free mods done, BTW. I should have mentioned that.

I really had no idea that there were that many different engine configurations for that generation. I'm pretty sure the one I raced was one of the top two looking at those numbers. Maybe I should pay a little more attention next time one of thse rolls up next to me :)

wow I didn't know they had that many different envigne options. But I did, however, have a friend in high school that had the350. I still do not think it was a 15 sec car. Cause we went to the track and he was running low 16's in 5 speed trim.......are thefirebirds faster?

Now in most cars you are lucky to get two engine choices or turbo/nonturbo.

Your friend had a 305. Once again, NO 5 speed cars were made with 350's. NONE.

Depends on how I feel. :) I've trapped as high as 116 mph at bandi.

They all came autos from the factory, but I've known a couple people to put in a 4th Gen 6 speed after they break the stock unit.

The stock Th700's don't tend to break very often, but yeah, when they do wear out, a lot of guys like to correct the factory oversight and throw a T56 in. I've considered the swap myself.
