I am wanting to get my xbox modded so I can use it as a media center. I have a new 250GB HDD to put in it and I am looking for someone that can install it and flash the chip or install a different chip. Anyone that can do it or know of a place?

i can do a soft mod and a HD upgrade if you'd like...
if you don't want a soft mod then... they have lots of solderless modchips now...
basically with a softmod you don't have to buy a mod chip.. i have had mine softmodded for almost 2 years...
i use all the same stuff a regular modded xbox can

I decided to take the plunge and do it myself....at least the mod part anyway. I used action replay and the memory card thing to upload the files. I am sitll thinking about the chip though and Have yet to do the HDD.
Where are you located? I would be willing to put up some cash for decents mods..ie dashboards,roms,dvd-xbox,...all that fun stuff installed and ready to go...

yeah there's multiple drives f: -> z: look in your evox settings you'll see how it splits up the data. All you gotta do for it to properly read the games is included the partitions:/folders/ where your games are in your games section within the evox.ini

Is your chip turning on correctly before booting up?
If you got a solderless chip your most likely having issues with it's poewr contact point, I know my new chip was a PITA to get that tiny ass power wire to get exact power contact.
I point to the chip as being the culprit at this point, less you didnt format your new hard-drive from within evox w/ it booted up via cdrom before installing evox onto the new HD...

using the stock chip for now. I tried making the Boot CD withi propper EVO files but the system won't load it from the CD drive. My HDD is lockable too so I can't seem to find the culprit. I also know that the bios supports the F+G drive too. Tried hotswapping while the evox dash was already running but anytime I try to perform an opperation, it just locks up...ie tries to access the new HDD and sees its blank

In order to boot a non OEM xbox CD/DVD you need to have the xbox chipped. The stock BIOS will NOT allow you to boot any CD-R or DVD-R/RW media. The process usually for installing a new HD is:
Mod xbox w/ chip you purchased.
Create CD-R of evox install disc
Install new HD
Boot xbox w/ evox install cd
After booting, format HD
install evox onto HD
remove evox install cd after completion
reboot xbox (should now boot off HD and boot to evox dash)
install your apps/games/ and finish off touching up your evox install
*you shouldnt need to lock your new HD, you usually only need to unlock the old hd in certain scenarios.
*I've never heard of running a new flashed bios as the on-board flash is very limiting in size, and the current new BIOS require more flash space. Least that's what I thought last time I had to bother w/ modding an xbx.

You can flash the on board bios chip to run another bios. Its called a soft mod. Its not very popular for the fact you can screw up the xbox.
As for not being able to load from the HDD, Im not sure what youve done wrong. I hope you backed up the bios on the board before you loaded the new one on it. If not you can download it and reupload it, but if your HDD that you took out of it is locked, and you didnt unlock it before writing the new bios, then its useless. Every xbox has a unique code that locks and unlocks the hard drive. Does that make sense? I cant help with a softmod. Ive never done one or really read up on them. It was easier to do it with a mod chip and still be able to reverse it and play xbox live with the chip installed and disabled.

maybe I will end up going with a chip then. I am still able to load the stock HDD and boot to EvoX or UnleashedX and play games. I just wanted to install the bigger drive. Has anyone done the process all the way through? Which chip did you go with? I also did the linux boot disc to format the new drive but it refused to lock it...drive is lockable too so who knows.
