I'm not sure if this is a good thing or bad thing for me (less competitors would be boring), but I hope they do Honda Challenge out here...

Sweet.. I always wondered if anyone actually still raced at that track in Mead.

SCCA Time Trials uses it, and so does PCA... but it's a horrible surface with little to no run-off room, which makes it a pretty unsafe track.
What's run-off room? Like the dirt/sand traps/tires/etc. in case you lose your brakes?

Yes. It's just room for you to slow down or regain control before you hit a wall.

It's the amount of dirt or other semi-safe surface you have between the edge of the track and something that hurts to crash into. Mead is a good little track, but it needs new pavement, more run-off room, no ditches off the edge of the track, better tire barriers, and something done about the bridge area.

Why does La Junta have a track? Half that town has probably never even seen a car before - unless you count a donkey pulling a cart full of hay a car....

Seriously.. I went to La Junta one time with an unnamed person, and unnamed person's unnamed family member took us to breakfast at Village Inn, and unnamed person's unnamed family member knew everyone there to eat, and working there. hhaahaha. That town is so.. hick.
By the way, run off is why they invented baby wipes as far as I'm concerned.
LOL, run off room is the space between the bottom of her lip and the end of her chin.

Because they have an abandonned airport.
BTW: The NASA Rocky Mountain headquarters is in Elizabeth of all places.

that's confusing... NASA (never actually heard of it till now), SCCA. and there's PCA??? ok, why do we need another organization with membership dues and rules, and not another track close to Denver (with 2nd creek gone now)? from what i understand, they don't have plans to build a new track, they just want to use something that already is there... what's the point?

Dima, you Soviets never heard of NASA!?
Sutton International Motorsports (associated with Centrix) is building us a nice new track in Watkins... http://www.camplaps.org/Info.asp (We have to wait until the 2007 season though)
PCA is just Porsche Club of America. The good thing about NASA (and other clubs) is that they give racers more options... some people will be able to find a class or series that better fits their car or desires, some people will find a better value, some will find an easier way to get into racing, etc. NASA will also have different contingency sponsors. It's my understanding that NASA costs less and is easier to get a competition license with. NASA is also the sanction that runs the Honda Challenge series... that's something I'd very much like to get into. My car is already setup to be pretty competitive in it's SCCA Time Trials and Club Racing classes, but if NASA offers something more exciting or a better value, then I may go over there. I really enjoy the SCCA Time Trials program and I hope that it keeps running strong, but I find most of NASA's other offerings more appealing than the SCCA equivilent, especially on the Club Racing level (ie Honda Challenge).

I'll build a spec neon once if that class comes locally.
About time NASA came. I'm sick of the SCCA.

_This_ is why another sanctioning body (NASA :)) is needed in the region.
Chris, let me know if you have ANY questions about building your SpecNeon. Get a wrench and get busy!!!

Wow...This is awesome news!
I dunno if you guys (HAI) remember me or not. I am in Nor Cal now but moving back to CO in December! The biggest downfall in my move back to CO is I have to leave racing behind. I have been crewing with NASA's USTCC and Honda Challange series's as well as competing in TT and HPDE's etc... i was super sad to hear about second creek and pretty much gave up hope of any road racing in CO. Maybe there is a light and the end of the Eisenhower!

You just have to make sure to convert all your metric to standard or you'll crash.

SWEET!!! Another CA refugee! Who were you crewing for in USTCC? I'm sure our paths have crossed since I'm also the Series Director for USTCC.
Chad, Since you have obviously been brainwashed by NASA, tell these guys who have never heard of us what it's all about. Then get your car ready for the first TT event in March @ Pueblo.
If this is all babble to the rest of the forum, go check out these links. It'll make more sense.

since when?
Oh, and just as a side note, this means that we now have 3 people on the board from Elizabeth.

I think I first heard it around November 15th... someone also said that the track owner placed concrete barriers across the track, apparently to make some political statement. I know everyone was complaining about the surface conditions (for good reason), and the town of Mead was fighting him every little thing, so he probably just got pissed off and decided to focus on his new motorsports park in Utah.
so what tracks are still in CO?
