Building an All motor b16, i assume the best ways to get major hp gains is, cams, bore and stroke,ITBs ect. What would you recommend first and what other parts would i have to buy after doing the mod. Also what type of hp gains are we talking about? I dont know too much about the b series but I would like to learn. Thank you....

With small displacement engines that already have a lot of technology in them, you should consider forced induction... faster, cheaper, and stronger. I think it's really neat to have a super high revving engine, but it's not really practical, and it's hard to add much power to an already well refined engine. You'd spend thousands of dollars on engine work, only to have it all destroyed when something goes wrong and you blow the engine. You're really putting all of your eggs in one basket there. But if you go with forced induction and don't put too much into the engine (say ARP head studs and maybe cams), you don't lose much if it blows... it's a lot cheaper, faster, and simpler to replace that engine and get the car back to what it was. All of the expensive components are pretty much seperate, so if one thing blows, it wont take out everything else with it. With NA, you're pretty limited, but boost just opens the door to being able to have a lot more power. It's pretty cool to have a Honda that actually makes decent torque too.

So far, I have over 2 years and 30k miles with a turbo on a LS engine, only internal mods are ARP head studs and a Cometic HP head gasket. I road course race it and beat the crap out of it all the time, but it's still going very strong because it's tuned properly and well maintained. A year ago, I said that I really couldn't complain if the engine blew, considering all that I've put it through... well, I'm going faster than I ever have before and still waiting for the engine to blow (like everyone told me it would when I first went turbo, over 2 years ago  ). It hasn't happened yet, and it will only cost me a few hundred to replace it when it does...

There is no such thing as N/A power gains in a Honda at this altitude.

:werd:

All motor Hondas anywhere above 2000ft elevation are useless.

Thanks a lot for then info Weston, and you make a good point about boost. And for Ryan man and Stu. I'' be back in Alaska next Summer so N/A wouldnt be that bad but im sure boost would do quite well also.

All motor is for suckers. You'll end up spending more money and going slower.

Well build n/a hondas are a blast, but the damn thin air screws them all. It will be much cheaper to be fast f/i. Certinaly go with a b18 block if you want to stay n/a.

As everyone said before don't do all motor. I've had 3 of my hondas all motor and I couldn't break a 14.00 ever. Just go with FI and be happy and fast.

Hmm. Im really on the fence ot boost and N/A. What kind of turbo set up would you recommend for a stock B16a.

It's not impossible to make decent numbers at high altitude. It's just a lot harder and more expensive. There's a guy on HT making 171wtq on *I think* a non-vtec h23. While that's not a crazy number, it is pretty impressive and he's in New Mexico at an even higher elevation. The easiest way on a B-series would be a b20vtec. So you could keep your b16a head and find a b20 longblock. Or you could build a stroked b16b, I think I know of a stock one for sale :) .

Anyway, from what I've heard, the advantage of all motor at higher altitude is the ability to run higher compression with less chance of detenation.

This is my dad's car. h22 civic, 100% stock h22 with ghetto ebay mods and cat.

NepTuned :) Not too bad for a 55+ year old man hahahaha

Of course these #'s are corrected.

One of my neighbors is running 10.9's all motor without spray.

But he has about 6 times the displacement your honduh does ;)
