so is it impossible to pass a smog check with a turbocharged engine??
someone said that the only aftermarket turbo kits that are CARB legal are some Greddy kits.

i have a DRAG3 kit and am wanting to register it in CA but i actually want to pass smog with flying colors.

is it possible to smog it in colorado then drive it in CA???

another issue is the external fuel pump. i was told that they could fail me solely for having one. is this true?? maybe i gotta install that walbro intank sooner than later .:PIMP:

im sure CA is ALOT stricter than most of the other states so i need a way to get around all the hassles. --- like reverting back to N/A just for a smog. then if thats the case after i install all these "illegal" parts back on my ride i gotta be super sleeper about it.--- Damn.. nice front mount!!! :D ---

wondering how all the boosted folks out there are able to take it to the streets.

somebodys gotta have a way out...
i saw a clean EK hatch today in santa clara,CA.
i walk up to where its parked and yeesss.... the front mount cleverly hidden behind a stock looking front bumper. VERy sleeperish. didnt think it was turbo at first glance but i snapped some pics and was on my way.
somebody out there please shine some heavenly light upon this situation.

Lean it out, add 1/2 a gallon of methanol, unhook your BOV, and make sure you have a catalytic convertor on your exhaust.

He didn't say straight methanol dipshit, he said a 1/2 gallon. If you don't know how to lean it out, you shouldn't own a turbo car.

You should have registered it before installing the kit. You can get methanol from Home Depot I THINK.. but there's a few places around town that sale it. I'm not 100% sure, but I think you put 1/2 gallon of pure methanol in it. I haven't tried it yet, so.. try at your own risk, but I would suggest asking around and doing more research first. Leaning it out consists of fucking with the air/fuel mixture. If you have Hondata, that's how. If you have a AFC (V, S, whatever), that's how. Don't mind ryanman.. he's just on a dryspell and is getting pissed cuz the polar bears up there are looking sexier and sexier by the minute. :D

Even if he did register it before installation, he will still have to retest in the future.

You should be able to pass the sniffer with a turbo, no problem. The trick is to have your emissions equipment in place, have a strong, healthy ignition system and have a well-tuned setup that runs clean, stoich mixtures and proper ignition timing. Your tuner should have setup a map that's this clean. Don't lean it out, that won't help you.

I'm assuming you are in CA, but if you are in CO, I can help you out with this, along with a huge number of other people here, I'm sure.

The visual in CA is probably a different story, but you should be able to pass the sniffer without issues.

Don't mind ryanman. It's that time of the month for him.

You don't need to tell that to me. I'm aware, I took emissions the day before installing my kit, and here I am, 2 yrs. later, due for emissions in February.

good luck on trying to smog a turbo car in california. i'm originally from there and unless the turbo kit has a carb number i.e. greddy and can run clean on their smog dyno, then you probably aren't gonna pass. if you can, just keep the car registered out here.

70% de-naturized alcohol 30% gas with a cat. (drive it hard to get it hot) You can get it at A&A trading post on brodway, littleton. Always works for me.
