David said my Integra is rice...

http://apexracingmedia.net/videos/2005-10-16/Dcp_4862-sm.jpg

But it ran mid-1:17's at Second Creek yesterday, so I think I'm allowed to rice it all I want... :fu: :D

Well, I know, but which way are you trying to have the air go? That doesn't look wind tunnel tested to me. Not tested = Rice, at least that's what Weston tells me. ;)

What's that black thing on the bottom of your bumper?

It's an air dam. I was getting a noticable amount of lift (opposite of downforce) in high speed turns, so I used that to reduce the amount of air going under the car. It's actually just cheap rubber/plastic edging from Home Depot, supported by an aluminum structure I made, but it works pretty well. It's pretty low and is not durable at all, so it's a race-day-only kind of mod. It also takes away air that used to be going to the back side of the front brakes, and I managed to smash my brake ducts, so the brakes got a little too hot. Oh well... the season is over and I have all winter to come up with something that works better. I think I'm still going to stick with the stock 10.3" front rotors, just so I can continue to make fun of ricers with big brake kits and cross-drilled/slotted rotors...

You should get some Homie Depot rain gutter side skirts to compliment your air dam. :D

It was tested on my test track. ;) I only noticed a small difference at first... I was kind of disappointed since it was a 135mph turn, so I figured that's where I'd notice the most difference. Well, it turns out that the wind at that speed deformed the thing and the bottom of it was now bent backwards rather than forwards. I added two more aluminum pieces to force it forward and the problem was solved. It does make more of a difference now, but it still definately has room for improvement...

Yup, it's an old MG... It was battling a Honda Insight, both in the 1:30's.

do you have an opening in the middle of your hood?

Weston-work

do you have an opening in the middle of your hood?

Yup, I added a drop-vent. The FMIC is a pretty big obstruction, so the radiator and engine bay didn't get much air flow. Between that and the fact that the turbo makes it hotter under the hood, I was having a lot of heat problems. Adding the upper vent to the front bumper helped with the coolant overheating, but the turbo was still getting a little heat-soaked and the oil was getting super hot, so I added the vent to the hood. Now air will flow in through that upper vent, through the radiator, over the turbo, and out the hood. It keeps the turbo nice and cool, which has a noticable effect on turbo efficiency and power.

Combined with a Fluidyne radiator and a low temp theromostat, the coolant temp doesn't even go above 1/8 when street driving on a cool night... the ECU is apparently staying in cold start fuel enrichment mode the whole time, so I'm going to have to swap the thermostat back to stock.

As soon as I quit being so broke so I can finish up the engine :D

Speaking of, I should quit slacking off and go back to the garage and make some fucking money.

EDIT: I'm getting a dogbox, too. 600AWHP minimum, shooting for 700 if I can get the turbos I want built, and lots of weight reduction. Fear me http://antisheep.org/hosted/nanner.gif

Don't worry about the turning, lots planned for that. Like I said lots of weight reduction, race weight of 3,200 would make me pretty happy, but since I'm not fucking around with weight reduction, closer to 3,000 isn't out of the question. On top of that, tubular control arms with heim joints in place of bushings, aluminum subframes with solid bushings, pretty much anything rubber in the suspension is getting replaced with metal and bearings. Then of course Tein coil-overs with swift springs in whatever rate I find works best, AP 6 pot front calipers, and if I stumble across a lot of spare money billet aluminum knuckles. Light rims, custom fiberglass fenders to fit some fat fucking tires, gutted to hell, no creature comforts, all sorts of good shit.

Right now I'm more worried about the drivetrain, of course, suspension and brakes will be fabbed up and pieced together over the course of about a year, most likely.

No holds barred on this car, definately several years in the making, but it'll be fuckin fun every step of the way :D

It's an AMB transponder used for lap and position tracking, accurate up to 1/1000th of a second. SCCA gives us loaners for no extra charge, so we just mount them to a clip on the outside of our cars... You can also get permanent hard-wired units that you can install inside the engine bay or a fender or something, but that's expensive and only really needed if you are more likely to have car-to-car contact.

It's basically just a close-range radio transmitter that sends out it's serial number. There is an antenna loop embedded in the start/finish line of the track, and another one on the pit lane exit. There are cables that go up to the tower, and they have a receiver/decoder box up there that is connected to a laptop, which records precisely when each car crosses the line. I've worked Timing & Scoring a few times and it's a pretty neat and very precise setup, but expensive.

Screw Dremel... it's all about the Black & Decker RTX. The Dremel doesn't have nearly enough torque to do what I need, and if you try, you just waste all kinds of time going slow and end up with a crappy looking cut. The RTX did my hood in a matter of minutes (most of the work was cutting the webbing on the under side of the hood), where my Dremel was taking hours.

A little, but only because I cut out way more webbing than I needed to, and it's not a problem. If I were to have cut only what I needed to make the vent, it would be as good as stock.

Definately not rice, rice doesn't perform so well at the track... assuming it ever sees a track... BTW, the video from the Chase Cam is pretty good. How do you like so far?

Weston
10-19-2005, 06:15 PM
The ChaseCam is pretty nice. I got the high res version and it gives me a very clear and stable picture. Unfortunately, I lose some quality when using Windows Movie Maker to capture segments from the tape... it's great on the camcorder or when I capture under Linux though.
