I found this fat fucker in front of the garage, just kind of hanging out and being ugly. Anyone know what kind it is? The ass is about the size of a penny.

Its web is the typical round orb web. I'm just wondering if I should worry about it being there (i.e. poisonous) or not. It doesn't seem aggressive. Iknow the agressive comment sounds funny since it's just a spider, but when I worked at PSI we had this bigger, ulgier spider that lived outside one of the windows that was aggressive. If you got within a a foot or so of the window it would shake its web really hard. Just fucking around with it, we discovered it web was incredible strong and sticky, big sticks stuck in it easily. It was kind of like the one on my garage, but fatter, uglier and dark brown. The above picture doesn't really show it, but its ass is shaped kinda like a box, with corners and flat sides and everything.
Big bugs seem to have a thing for hunting me down, this fat asshole dive bombed me at my old house:

To put that in perspective, that is a full size porch light, normal size light bulbs and everything.

that moth probably eats birds...
if i were you.. id take a bottle of WD40 and a lighter and do the deed.
ive seen spiders like that before, but not hairy and some diffrent colors. but same profile.. the big ass, huge webs that are VERY sticky and strong. we threw twigs, about the size in your picture - and the spider would run over to it and throw it off. that fucker was SMART.

I've seen bigger, as well. I'm just worried its bigness is in proportion to its poisonous.....ness.
If it's nothing to worry about, I won't; it's web is at least 7 or 8 feet high, I had to stand on my toes and hold the camera way above my head to get a picture. And I'm 6 feet tall. The web isn't big, no more than a foot or so across, so nobody will be walking into it or anything.
Adam, that thing totally eats birds. And dogs. And almost me.

No, Seriously, it's a cat face spider, an orb weaver. I had a post almost exactly like yours recently...
No harm to humans, great for eating bugs.

Yes, yes I do.
Earlier I walked outside taking a break from welding, looked up just in time to see a June bug fly into its web and get wrapped up. Remarkable timing on that one, pretty cool to watch. Definately a smart spider, its web is right next to the light.

While watching ugly up there eat another bug, I saw this bastard crawling up the wall. Looks like a brown recluse ;UgH:

Might not be a brwon recluse, though it looks to be in the same family. Time to kill it, better safe than having my flesh rot off.

Whats the fun in that? Everyone on HAI wants to see pics of your flesh rotting off....:D
Yeah, I knew right away it was a wolf spider. My parents have the occasional tarantuala sized ones at their house. They are so cool. :)
