Found this post on H-A,
"chips are just about worthless, they set a fixed fuel map for ur car which isnt good under all conditions, if u want ur ecu set agressively pull the hazard fuse or disconnect the battery and the first few times u drive it afterwards floor it, and ur cars ecu will learn ur driving pattens and set the ecu's map for them. chips just lock in a map for everything which defeats the purpose of an ecu which can change fuel maps under different driving conditions. hope that makes sense"
Is this some BS or what??

He's mostly talking about the pirated chips sold on eBay, or pretty much any chip or mod that just blindly alters the fuel or ignition maps, without being tuned at all for the specific vehicle.
Still BS, expecially the whole pulling the hazard fuse. The ECU is constantly learning as far as I know. A normal ebay chip can help you if you have mods. If you don't have mods, there isn't much that a chip can do. I still think a chip can help with specific mods and depending on where you want your powerband a chip can help you if you get one that sets your VTEC crossover where you want it (if you have vTECH).
Up here at altitude an ebay chip is probably less effective then at sea level because a lot of times it can richen your mixture too much, as far as I understand. It's 2:15 though, I just got back from poker, and I've been drinking the whole time. Anything I say could be totoally wrong.
And BTW, just because you reply at the bottom doesn't mean it didn't take a while to write. I hesistate to hit the "quick reply" button, because it wasn't really quick.

Didn't catch that ^^ maybe the alcohol talking.
But yea he was saying that you can adjust your stock ecu by disconecting the battery/hazard fuse and gun it so that it can adjust to your driving. I've never heard anything like that.
Or just get an S-AFC/V-AFC. :)

Yea i'm thinking V-AFC but what sucks is that my pw0 ecu has that speed cut. So i'm going to have to chip it. What does everyone do with those b16s ecu w/ speed cuts??
Uhh.. why do you need to get rid of the governor? You plan on going faster than 145 anytime soon?

HAHA that's alot of speed eh? no but my ecu cuts out early like 115mph or something like that.
Then you have a bad ecu or something else is wrong.. do you have the stock ITR ecu? (Assuming you have an actual ITR) And even then, 115 is still way faster than you'll need to go. 1, not to sound like your mom, but you should be doing faster than that on a daily basis ya know.. I've done it once in a blue moon. 2, if you're talking about for drag racing purposes, I ran a 13.9 @ 102... so unless you think you'll trap faster than a 115.. why bother?

13.9 @ 102 that's nice man, i wasn't askin for my type r, i just got a hold of this EF w/ a B16 and i wanted to mess with the ecu. It kinda made sense though, doesn't look like i'll be hitting 115 + daily and i sure aint gona go faster than that a the track. THANKS MOM YOUR AWESOME ^^
