Any suggestions on where to take my B16 tranny to be rebuilt? My synchros are starting to get on my last fucking nerve. :Peace:

Thanks!

DIY. Tranny rebuilds are expensive.

If anything else, buy another tranny.

Meh.. I'd rather rebuild it with an LSD though.....

Either go to Tobi or get a Helm's manual and go at it. You should feel fortunate though... it appears that for Civic Si's and Integra Type-R's, you can buy just the synchro and collar parts, rather than having to buy them bundled with the actual gears like the rest of us.

Interesting.. could you grab some links for me for the parts???? I might be interested in trying a DIY. I'm sure I could pull it off with the help of Helm's and calling Tobi every 10 seconds. ;NutKick;

Some tranny disassembly/reassembly info is here (see my post on page 5 for B-series differences): http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=596873

Put an LS 5th gear in there while you're at it. Crusing at 80mph @ 5,000rpm = nuts.

Put an LS 5th gear in there while you're at it. Crusing at 80mph @ 5,000rpm = nuts.

The LS 5th is pretty long (0.714), especially for a Si (0.848 stock)... might want the GS-R 5th instead (0.787).

BTW... 5000rpm in 5th should be a little over 90 MPH on an Si/Type-R gearbox. With the GS-R 5th, it's 100; with the LS 5th and 4.40 FD, it's a little over 110. Assuming you rev to 8200rpm, that means top gear speed is about 153 stock, 165 with GS-R 5th, and 182 with LS 5th and 4.40 FD. So, the LS is pretty useless on that car... you give up a lot of acceleration to get a top gear speed that your engine will never hit. If you want a longer 5th, GS-R is the ideal choice, IMO.

Good call.. but can you just buy certain gears...?

Yep. Weston's GS-R tranny has an LS 5th gear.

Where could I pickup the gear from then if I were to put in a GS-R 5th?

I can do it for ya, been building trannies for a while and it isn't expensive through me. I'm not very familiar with Honda gearboxes, but it's nothing I can't handle, after all I do work on what's almost the most complex boxes out there (6 speed AWD transaxles with triple cone synchros and fully synchronized reverse). Your standard single ring synchro 5 speed is quite simple in comparison :)

Which synchros are acting up?

If its a B series its more than likely third or second gear. So common I have the parts in stock for them now. What LSD were you planning on doing?

Type-R, and it's my 2nd gear. How much for the parts tobi?

You want prices on the LSD install stuff too? or just the second gear set?

ITR LSDs are around 500ish, aren't they?

Depending on where you get them and what comes on them. You will need a ring gear, and bearings to fit that tranny. I will price them when I get back from the dyno today.

Excellent, thank ya sir.

Won't the Si ring gear fit the Type-R LSD, or what that the one that had the same bolt pattern as the LS differential?

BTW: you can get a used Type-R LSD for around $350 if you shop around...

That would be awesome... I'll def. have to look around.

No, only the GSR ring gear will fit. It also needs LS bearings and shimpacks to fit.
New prices for LSD and 1-2 gearset.
LSD: 997.30
Bearings: $41 ea.
Ring gear: $188.00
1/2 gear set (updated to carbon faced) $371.27

Would this include the rebuild if I brought it to you? Also, what's the cost on replacing 5th with a GSR 5th?

No, that is the parts cost.

GSR 5th gear set and synchro is $304.00

Labor depends on if the tranny is in the car or not.

Do what Aracheon does, suck off truckers on Colfax. He's gay though, so it might not work out too well for you if you're not.
