I have my 92 laser RS-T, and i just found out about a 90 GSX that had a TBelt blow. Right now its at my friends shop. He wants $1500 for it, but its been sitting in the shop for a few months.

Heres my plans if i do get it....Pull the engine from the laser cause its fwd and i know its a good engine, put it in the GSX along with the FPB16g. Rebuild the other engine and make the laser a drag car...I know its would be good with slicks, and being so light.

Oh yeah, the GSX has every option available too, and my laser has pretty much nothing.

So what should i offer the guy, i was thing $1000.
Thanks

If the Tbelt went with the motor running, you will be replacing valves and possibly pistons. How much $$ do you want to sink into a rebuild? And the 90s have pretty weak internals in the trannies (ok - paper synchros vs brass) and that dreaded 3bolt rearend (you will snap axles).

How many miles on the motor?

What's a laser rs-t? Turbo FWD? FPB16G? Whazzat? I'd make the AWD the drag car - a lot of 1/4 mile races are won at the line.

Actually i read(im trying to find the site right now) that the 90-early 92 had the strongest internals, but the weakest rear-end. The laser is a late 91 model for 92 so it has the same engine anyways.

I just got back from a long brain storm on the toilet and think that ill just put together the GSX and then throw that engine into the laser and sell it for dirt cheap to someone who wants to rebuild it. Then ill keep the GSX and buy a suby for daily driving, and early 90s impressa just for commuting.

The other question is which tranny to use. I can have either the taller gears of the FWD or the shorter from the AWD.

If im wrong just let me know. I know that the Laser has just as much potential at the track with slicks with is light weight. It would just be nice to have AWD.

The engine internals are a bit stronger in the 90s but John was talking about the trannies internals which are pretty weak.

The AWD is better for the drag car. All the quickest DSMs in Colorado are AWDs. FWDs need more hp to just match the AWDs traction.

i relise that an AWD can pull some serious 60 foots, but ive seen people pull 1.8 - 1.7 60s with D.O.T Drag radials, and even better with real slicks. Right now im pretty much thinking that if i can get it for $1000 then ill buy if not then ill just run slicks with the laser.

Are those 60ft times from a fwd DSM or from other cars? I've personally never seen a FWD DSM at Bandi run faster than than my car with the small 16g@16psi. actually I've only seen a couple run in the 14s period. I hope you can do better and give the FWD crowd a boost.
So what car are you gonna run in the club clash? That's assuming you are running with us.

The internals in the 90-91 motors were the strongest, FWIW. Somewhere in the production cycle for the 92s mitsu swapped in the 4bolt rearend. The only way to tell is to get under the car and look.

Re 60' times - I pulled 1.7's all day long on street tires in the old AWD. :) Nitto 450s.

I'd go for the GSX. AFAIK, the gearing is the same, but on the freeway the FWD will pull the AWD due to weight & HP loss thru the AWD drivetrain.

Dont waste your money unless you have enough to really back up what you wanna do!

I would go for it. Sounds like you could make one pretty quick car out of the GSX. Plus DSM's arae a good solid platform to start with if you dont have thousands to drop into a car right away. You can make a DSM quicker than any stock civic and many swapped one's for the cost of a boost controller.

You can make a turbo DSM faster than any stock Civic just by pressing the gas pedal. lol:smashfrea

not to this one dsm owner, he wants a hatch now that I beat him. His car is totally stock, all he needs is an intake, boost controller to beat me...go figure

Well i just talked to the guy and i told him i could only pay $1000 for it. But theres another guy looking at it so if i get it then cool, if not then ill go for trap speeds, or a FWD DSM record up here. We all have to have our goals right?
I guess the money i save from the AWD i could spend on a Quafie, or FMIC, or....

Well i missed out on that beast, but after driving my laser today i cant say that im dissapointed in it. I got all of my little goodies on it this weekend
-B16g, Dejon Tool Intake & turbo outlet elbow, K&N, Free mods, T-Belt tentioner.

Torque steer is gonna be a bitch, so im probably gonna get a Quaife before i get a FMIC.

I find that quite interesting... I can't say that I've ever heard someone say that before

Torque steer? Just hold on to the wheel tighter and get the front mount.;)
